Sigh... so I had a nice post all written up and lost it to a miss click... Great Start to my forum use >_<
Short version:
I had a DragonLance art book when I was a kid, I loved the style of the dragons and can still remember them to this day. Upon reaching the Valley of The Drakes in Dark Souls I realized the Drake beasties reminded me of a specific piece of art from the book. In fact upon looking for the image and finding it I realized even the background sort of reminds me of blight town and the depths areas within the game.
I was just wondering if anyone else thought that maybe the artist/s of Dark Souls might have been inspired by such works, or if its just a coincidence of there only being so many ways to draw giant flying lizards (also just generally accepted ways common fantasy creatures and environments should look), or if maybe both styles had been inspired by even earlier work I'm not aware of. (I think Dark Souls art stands on its own and am not attempting to accuse their artists of copying anyone.)
Thoughts? Comments? Insight?
For the comparison what I find striking is the similarity of the heads. All are sharp almost arrowhead like in shape and have similar spike/horn placement.
I apologize in advance for having absolutely no idea how to post correctly on forums.
Also does anyone know who did the concept art for Dark Souls? I wasn't able to find any names online
(minus internet points for me.)
