So fellow Escapee, how long were you stuck on this overgrown goat?

I've been trying to kill him for 2 hours and can't seem to get him. I'm playing a SL 27 thief and he owns me everytime.

I think it's bound to be the worst and cheapest boss in gaming history due to the two chihuahuas, the small arena and the dumb camera angles.

After how many tries did you manage to down him?

surprisingly few. Once you kill the dogs and have a second to understand where the demon is and get proper control of your character, it becomes pretty straightforward. The first 15 seconds matter the most, because you are being rushed by enemies at the same time, so you have to take action or get stun locked.

he is pretty easy now, but dying there is not uncommon.

I beat him on my third try, which was my only attempt that didn't end in me dying within two seconds.

Try kiting the dogs up the stairs and quickly killing them. There should be a little ledge connected to the stairs, try getting him to the bottom of that, getting to the ledge and then dropping on top of him with a stab. It does a lot of damage. Other than that, just block, roll then stab. He's a real ***** at first. That the nearest checkpoint is such a long walk away takes the piss, too.

Took me a while. I forget if I used a summon but I'm pretty sure I used some resin. Once you take out the dogs he's really not the bad, and so long as you resin up your weapon and it's fast enough if you run ahead as soon as you get in and the dodge back Capra usually does an attack that sticks himself in a long animation delay giving you enough time to take out the dogs.

I beat him second try.

I blazed past him and the dogs to the other side of the room. The dogs are faster than he is so you just take them out when they get to you, then run past him again and go up the stairs. Wait for him to drop then attack. Rinse and repeat.

Although once the dogs are gone, Capra is rather easy by himself, he isnt an incredibly fast attacker so dodging his swings arent too difficult.

Also trust me, there are far worse things in Dark Souls than the Capra Demon

I actually beat him on my first try, without any real difficulty at all. One of the vrey few bosses this has happened for thus far, but there you have it. I just rushed in, killed the dogs almost immediately and then wailed on him until he died. That said, I'm playing a pure melee character and at that point had the elite knight armour, the drake sword and the dragon crest shield. A fair chunk of time on from that point, I'm using the same equipment...

Yeah, the boss is quite annoying. What you need to do is immediately run for the staircase, funnel the dogs into it, kill them, and the fight becomes much easier. Granted, you still gotta be careful that the big guy doesn't hit you, but without the dogs bothering you, you should be fine.

He is actually extremely easy if you grab the stone armor set and just tank him, that requires you to save up 20000 souls to grab the crest however. If you don't want to do that, than at least grab the urchigatana(you are doing a dex build right?) and get that to plus five

Two. This is standard for sorcerer characters, not great at fighting off the trash mobs, easy boss fights. He smooshed me flat the first try (as he does to pretty much everyone...). Then I cast Magic Shield, and his swords and the dogs bounced off harmlessly.

Ran up the stairs, killed the dogs, then needled him with missles til' he died. No sweat.

Just want to jump in; how much of a time sink is this game?
Been really looking into it because it looks brilliant to be honest, but I'm curious about how much bang I'll get for my buck?

And also is it the sort of game that's best in marathon stretches or little and often?

I beat him on my first go. I just ran up the stairs, took out the dogs and then spammed fireballs on the demon while dodging his attacks.

Only ten. This is in contrast to Ornstein and Smough, where I had tried 39 times before downing those motherfuckers. I used the Halberd and my Scimitar on Goat guy along with some Firebombs. Tht killed him on my tenth try after getting the timing down. I now laugh at the Capra Demons in the Demon Ruins as I can't stop myself from murdering them with ease. X-D

Massive time sink if you get into it. I think out of my eight or so characters, I have more than a weeks worth of time spent on the game. You are free to go at your own pace, and depending on how thorough you are a play through could last several days.

After several hours of trying for the first time, I gave up, and left for Anor Londo.

Then, after I had killed Ornstein and Smough, obtained the Lordvessel, and got myself a nice fiery sword, I went back and butchered him in one attempt.

I quickly realized he's actually really easy. The dogs die in a single hit from a reasonable +5 weapon, and the demon himself is really slow. The fight is really not as hard as it's made out to be once you know how the game actually works. Upgrading (and buffing) your weapon and wearing medium armor with some poise will make the fight very easy.

Just wait till you get to Ornstein and Smough. That's gonna be fun the first time you do it (assuming this is your first playthrough).
Okay really? I know its entirely possible to do this, but on your first run? did you just read the entire wiki? I have a hard time believing this, but if its true than props to you.

I got him on...my third try I believe. I ran up the stairs, killed the pooches, and hid on the little stone ledge beside the staircase. He couldn't seem to get me there. Every now and then he'd successfully step onto it, I'd block him, and he'd fall off. I used the ledge to heal up, throw firebombs at him, try and drop on his head, etc, etc. Eventually whittled him down.

Definitely one of the bosses that puts the lie to the whole "If you pay attention and go slow you'll be ready for everything" claim. First time you meet that guy you're going down, unless you're greatly over-geared and/or have prepared via spoilers. He's on you before you even really have time to register what's happening.

Beautiful, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. Ordered a copy for £20.
I'm the sort of player that explores every nook and cranny on the first couple play throughs.

Wish me luck!

I'm 6-7 hours in. The game in itself could be short... if it wasn't for the absurd difficulty you encounter. And the more you rage, the more you're determined to reduced anything that kill you into a small pile of pulp. And you rage a lot.

Add the New Game +. You can do 7 of them successively on one character but the difficulty level drastically augments.

Still I love it.

Even god-like reflexes couldn't prepare you to his sudden charge. He starts running towards you even if the fog is still all over your screen. :/

yeah, the Capra Demon is just annoying. He goes past being difficult and just becomes cheap. The dogs are what makes the fight more irritating than it needs to be since if you took those out the fight wouldn't be that hard. I really don't know why they even bothered putting the fight in as it's not interesting. What I did was I took equipped a spear, ran for the stairs, and got to a little alcove that's IMPOSSIBLE for the demon to get do aside from the occasional leaping slash which is easy to block. While there I just jabbed the dogs and then worked on the demon slowly but surely.

Some other annoying fights are Quelaag, the Hydras, Ornstein and Smough, the Four Kings, and the Bed of Chaos.
