If you're anything like me (a lonely sod who never leaves his house) and you've played Dark Souls, you've probably asked yourself "What was my character's life like before he/she was locked away in the asylum?"

For me, my character was a Sorcerer. He was highly anti-social, preferring the company of his books as opposed to people. Eventually he began to read more and more about the ways of sorcery, and decided to enter the Veinheim Dragon School to make use of his heightened intellect. For years he studied and practiced until he eventually learned the Soul Arrow sorcery and was declared an official apprentice.

Not too long after that, tragedy struck. When practicing his new sorcery in his room, he accidentally hit his bookshelf and it fell on him, killing him instantly. To his surprise he woke up at a bonfire being monitored by several guards. Considering he appeared at a bonfire and his skin looked like old beef jerky, he was immediately judged guilty of being undead, and was sentenced to rot in a cell in the asylum until the end of time. From there on, he waited for years. Waiting and waiting, until the day would come when he would be rescued by Oscar of Astora, and begin the journey of the Chosen Undead.

So, fellow Escapists, what's your Dark Souls character's background?

A swaggering bravo who picked the wrong fight on the wrong night. Only, he woke up and was immediately whisked to the Asylum. He was a very vain man, he spent coin as fast as he collected it on flashy clothes and growingly ornate hilts for his rapier. He was short-tempered and had a acidic tongue. Naturally he did not take well to being locked up in a dirty cell in rags. Not to mention that undeath had robbed him of his fabulous goatee. He would constantly shout obscenities and throw himself against his cell door. I imagine that that commotion is what drew Oscar to his cell. The rest is history.

You don't need to be some swift tounged drunk to be targeted by the inquisition, he/she could've been any number of things: A soldier somebody didn't want to pay, some farmer with some land that would be useful to them, or just some guy with the curse that inquisitors stumbled across. What's for sure is that they had something that kept them away from the curse much longer than the guards or city watch, because he/she is barely insane while locked in an asylum while guards and citizens whom are free are already soulless. It could be he just lived far from the city/source, was excellent at combat, or any number of things. He/she can talk to people like solaire so he has some education above peasant level, and whent to jail without any massive wounds on his/her body, so I assume the the CU was part of the inquisition or the hierarchy itself and was captured by his/her peers after getting infected. Can't really determine what is cannon.
