been playing dark souls for ages now and theres one thing I've noticed. despite the huge amount of people playing i cant invade anyone and only once has someone taken my summon sign (after an hour wait when i despratly needed humanity) so my question is this, when you invade with a blue eye or red eye orb what do you do? spam it repeatedly or wait for the inevitable "failed to invade" to pop up? i know its not my connection I've checked it with other games. My second question is where is the best placement for summon signs? I hope someone answers soon as I love this game and have yet to get a proper taste of the online aspect

Blue Eye Orbs and Red Eye Orbs are probably not your best bet. Did you get the White Soapstone from Solaire?

You probably won't be able to invade anyone consistently until you join a covenant. (Depends on which one.)

As far as best placement goes, it really depends on the area. Usually right before the boss is a good idea.

Well, I've racked up over a hundred hours of gametime now and I have to say I get invaded or summoned quite frequently. But I guess it's a matter of taste. I know I prefer to complete the game on my own and I find humanity to be VERY rare on my first playthrough, and since the game being as hard as it is it gets spent fairly fast resulting in me usually being hollowed when I'm trying to get the bosses killed. I can only assume it's the same alot of others.

I've read if you want some fairly consistant low-level pvp you should join the forest hunters, but I have yet to try and confirm this myself. If you're just looking for a way to get/farm humanity there are other superior ways of doing this.

I usually don't bother unless I actually see people signs of other player in the area, you know like when sometimes you see the pale blue phantom forms of other players on your server running around for an instant, or occasionally at a bonfire when you actually see other players for a moment.

When I see such signs of activity, I usually drop a summon sign at the bonfire (after all, if a player has just gone human, they'd have done it at that bonfire). But generally, the game has shit luck for that working. Between the open world design, the signs vanishing between different areas, multiple servers, limits on level differences, and the fact that actually being human in order to summon someone is not exactly a long lasting stage of the game for most, it just doesn't happen a lot.

That said, I have had some lucky stints, and I find it usually goes pretty well if you're the human one summoning others (as there are massively more undead players running around dropping summon signs than there are human players to activate them).

So yeah, my take on it is that there simply aren't enough players in human form at any given time in any given area for getting summoned to be anywhere close to a consistent possibility. But now and then you get lucky.

There's a small thread on the wiki about it, with directions to get out. The same thing happened to me, and I thought I was trapped down as well.

Did you get the lantern yet?

You aren't going to like this: they drop from those frog demons that can curse you.

I was in darkwraith covernant, got the red eye orb , i uaually use it in the library or the catacombs/tomb of giants. Or that lava place after the demons ruins , i found those are the best places to use them . As for the soapstone , use it need a white door. Also note if you take the covenant in the wood and wear the ring you will get summoned when a trespasser enter the forest . While in the forest grinding for souls i was CONSTANTLY invaded ( one after the other) .

I advise against this , since forest hunters does not take into consideration characters soul levels , so you might ( and will ) invade people whos soul level is higher than yours.

Apparently Dark Souls works on a P2P system, not like Demon's Souls. If you're hard pressed to find soul signs or places to invade, quit the game and rejoin.

True that, but as a member of the Forest Hunters you'll invade people who are still low enough that farming there is viable, or simply trying to get to Sif. All the really high levels have moved on to greener pastures, so to speak ;) If they aren't masochistic enough to still farm the forest.

I've also found that the forest hunters are more often than not summoned 2 at a time to defend. just saying.

I've got a good 150+ hours logged now so let me clue you in on a few tips.

If you want to PvP there are set areas + level ranges that the community has chosen. You can find them listed on the Dark souls wiki but here are the two that I frequently use and have never had any trouble finding a game.

Anor Londo on the long bridge with the Gargoyle across from the bonfire ranged 40-60.

Darkroot garden near the 20k souls door, 10 feet from the bonfire. Level range is usually lower 20-60.

Not sure if super high levels PvP in the same spot, since I have 3 level 40-60 characters.

Well the reason i said that is because , i'm on new game+ , lvl 120 , and last night i was farming there ( ng+ gives you 3 times the exp as the previous time , so i get 21 000 souls instead of 7000) and i went in human and got CONSTANTLY invaded one after the other , but these guys must have been at a level way lower than me because i was taking little to no damage from these guys but i was two shoting them. That and i was getting like 2k-4k exp from them , usually i get 10-20k from people around my level when i kill them . Which lead me to believe that joining the forest hunters is a big risk.
