Does anyone know if there are any anime or movies that are dark subversions of Japanese superhero tropes? Something along the lines of Evangelion or Madoka but with power rangers sentai style characters.

The side stories in Franken Fran are a huge shout out/deconstruction/subversion of the Rider series, though only five chapters long.

Frankenfran (a manga) has a short storyarc in it that's a dark parody/reimagining of Kamen rider.

That manga is slightly disturbing, though, just a warning.

You are welcome.
You know you want it. (My god that was such a lame joke I think my sense of humour just mentally ***** slapped me for it.)

It's hard to say, the only ones I'm aware of usually turn out to be satirical or out and out parody of the genre. I guess you could theoretically argue anything by Go Nagai fits into this category.

Some seasons of Kamen Rider have been more bloody and dark then other seasons... all I can think of, though.

Some early seasons of sentai could be dark, same with some of the Hesei era Riders (don't know about Showa era haven't seen any from it). Garo is also pretty dark. The current one has more of a team more than the previous seasons.

Zebraman wasn't necessarily dark, as it was as much tribute as parody, but the setup reminded me a lot of Visitor Q so that gave the movie some unintentionally dark undertones.
