Guess some Dark Side magic (like the Prophets of the Dark Side) brought him back.

Thoughts?

Not sure how you survive getting cut in half and thrown down a large pit. But whatever.

From the article:
"He is such a dynamic and exciting character," Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni told USA Today. "He made such a huge impression in that first film that when you go back and look at the prequels, you forget he's not in all three."
PAH! Don't make me laugh, he had about 3 lines in the entire film and just stood around grimacing. People only remember him because he had a double bladed lightsaber and cool face paint.

He was stabbed in the gut and cut in two, then fell down a several hundred metres long tunnel and forgotten about. How the blazes could he have survived that? That's a pretty blatant and completely terrible Deus Ex Machina, but aparently it was all Georgeyboy Lucas' idea, so I shouldn't be surprised.

Maul was last seen in the Phantom Menace?

Wasn't he in the Clone Wars Cartoon? Shot by Uncle Owen?

EDIT: Nevermind, just checked Wookiepedia, that was Non-canon. IGNORE ME!

About the same way you lose three limbs right next to a bit of lava, get burned to a crisp, and still have the energy to scream about how much you hate one of only two people still willing to be decent to you.

Meanwhile... what? Why? Darth Maul was the best part of Episode 1, why would you bring him back to rape him into crappiness!?
You bring up a good point.

I guess if all of us can survive the prequels, then perhaps surviving what he went through isn't out of the question.

Or maybe that wasn't the point you were trying to make. I don't know, I'm tired and this all feels kind of like a dream.

Boba Fett survived being eaten by the Sarlacc (at least as far as the expanded universe is concerned).

Every time I read a post of yours to myself, the voice in my head is Archer?s, but you already know that.

I like crisp but not human crisp. I like the potato-y kinds. Going back through the original trilogy, Vader was an angry stump of a man but I would be to if I lost my wife, limbs, skin, and friends.

Speaking more about Maul, I remember a comic where they brought him back. He and Vader get into a fight and Vader stabs Maul by stabbing himself. They had some sort of exchange where Vader said that he hated himself. I don?t remember all of it though.

*looks around

I?ll go back to my cage again.

When I read the title of this thread, I was expecting to hear that George Lucas went back and edited Episode 1 so Darth Maul didn't get cut in half or something.

But what kind of threat could he pose? I mean, Kenobi beat him when he was still training with his master, so he can't be all that threatening. Plus there's the whole cut in half thing that may impede his ability to fight. And be alive in general.

The Clone Wars is actually pretty good, so I doubt he'll be "raped into crappiness". Check out the Nightsisters Trilogy which features the introduction Maul's brother Savage Oppress (Yes really stupid name, FYI, it's pronounced Sah-vahj Op-press). It'll give you a gist of how they'll end up handling Maul.

That was more of a matter of him being a complete idiot than in a battle ready stance. It's also entirely possible he was trained through these years, or if he was just revived recently was granted more power from the Dark side.

And besides, fights are entirely situational, and when the Force is involved heavily depends on emotions. For example, Luke Skywalker beat Darth Vader despite Vader having YEARS UPON YEARS of more experience than Luke, and that's simply because Luke was his son, and because Luke gave into his anger. The subconscious feeling of "I'm fighting my own son" plus Luke's fury won Luke the duel despite the difference in skill level because any Jedi/Sith fight is ultimately determined by the Force, and thus ones emotions.

So I'm fairly certain if there was a Darth Maul vs. Obi-wan fight Obi-wan would have an "oh crap" moment and think about Qui-gon, whereas Darth Maul would be angry out of revenge. Since Maul is trained in harnessing his anger for battle and since Jedi when angry can have their minds clouded (again, depending on the situation), Maul would be able to hold his own theoretically.

It's Lucas's idea. Everyone knows he's been hitting the crazy pills pretty hard.

All Boba Fett did was stand around looking cool, and look how popular he became.

Well of course they're going to bring him back to life. The fans couldn't stop obsessing over him, so why not cash in on it at the expense of logic and reason? It's the "Boba Fett survived the Sarlaac" and Dark Empire's cloned Emperor bullshit all over again.

I believe the Nostalgia Critic sums up my reaction nicely:

Just gonna point out that they have brought back plenty of "dead" characters before. Vader, Palpatine, and Thrawn all jump to mind.
