Nintendo takes for bloody ever ATM to trickle these games out which sucks ass, but hey at least this a good sign that SNES games are coming as well as the potential for titles from other platforms to appear down the track with Nintendo's Online Subcription.
Playing Super Mario Kart, F-Zero and Stunt Race FX Online with others would be sweet if this does come to fruition.

Hopefully SNES games are announced in the predicted upcoming January Nintendo Direct.

thoughts?

So it's subscription based, meaning you have to pay a monthly fee to get access to games the Wii-U simply had for sale in its online store?

Nintendo's Online service is subscription based and the NES app is basically Nintendo's version of Xbox Lives games with gold or PSN's "free" games they give you for subscribing to those online service's.

if you pay to play online on the switch then you have access to the NES games.

Ugh, why?!? Just give people the ability to buy NES/SNES games on the Switch, don't gate them behind a subscription fee. Again, the Wii-U allows you to buy them without any of this bullshit, just do the same for the Switch. I mean, with PS+ and Xbox Live Gold you can still buy the free games outside of the subscription. It'd be so simple for Nintendo to just not be weird about this, and yet..

well at least this way you don't have to outright pay for Super Mario Bros 3 or Super Metroid for 500th time.
this way it's all just included in the one online subscription that will only keep improving over time. slowly as fuck sure, but hey it's still happening.

from a business perspective i can see why Nintendo would prefer it this way anyway. this way if people are subscribing then it's a guaranteed continuous revenue stream for Nintendo. they won't have people that buy just one virtual console and then never buy from it again. is that anti consumer? sure but running a business was never about being everyone's friend.

Oh I'm sure that's why they're doing it - Nintendo is very secure in its grip around its fans' balls. I'm just calling it out for being shitty practice. There's a difference between a company not being your friend, and a company just acting like a shit so they can bleed you for cash. Have your subscription with its free games, but give people the oppertunity to also individually buy those games, should they wish. That's just the decent thing to do. Not friendly, decent.

meh. i was always going to pay for online to play Smash and Splatoon online anyway so the extra NES games are just a little bonus in my eyes.
