I'd like to start this thread by saying Rap and Hip-hop are different things to me, when I think of Rap, I think more downbeat (possibly)emotional songs. Whereas hip-hop I think more upbeat, funkier and quite often more spastic.

I don't mean to be prejudice to this forum (as you may have seen I just started) but like every other forum I go on that has some orientation of games, people seem to love metal. Another forum I go on, to me, people only ever seem to like industrial or heavy metal. (A small handful of us like rap)

So lets get to it then. (I'll write about a few of them, then i'll just list them)

Kanye West
A little mainsteam, but his songs can have a very decent tune to them, to me he seems to sing about the realism of 'the ghetto' or growing up with a struggling family. He's done some songs with a fair few decent rappers (Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco) and is pretty talented.

Jurassic 5
For those who loved the game "Tony Hawks Underground" or T.H.U.G. this band was on the playlist with a song 'A day at the races'. They are one of my all time favourite hip-hop bands. I first heard of them from my dad surprisingly. They have 4 albums, I own 3/4 but as far as I know, their latest album is just as good. To anyone who fancy looking into this band, the best album is 'Power In Numbers'

Hieroglyphics
I would most certainly say that hiero are rap. I'm not sure what to say about hieroglyphics apart from they have a few decent songs. I'm pretty sure they have a sub band called 'Souls of Mischief' who sing a pretty famous (at the time) song called '93 til infinity' which I love.

Del Tha Funkee Homosapien
Del actually comes from the band above but his music is alot more 'funkeeee'. Catchy, wacky and most certainly decent. He has quite a distinctive voice, if you do happen to listen to him you may know his voice from the song 'Clint Eastwood' by Gorillaz.

I'm really tired right now, so that's all I will write about. (I will update it in time)
so for now i'll just list some decent groups.

Murs (also living legends)
Mos Def
Stephen Marley (If you consider him hip-hop. He definitely does some hip-hop stuff)
Shwayze
Dr. Octagon
Busta Rhymes (His old stuff)
Lupe Fiasco
RJD2's album "Deadringer" (He only makes the music)
The Pharcyde
Gang Starr
Demigodz
A Tribe Called Quest
Roots Manuva
Skibadee
Foreign Beggars
People Under The Stairs
Awol One & Daddy Kev (mainly the song 'Rhythm')
Ugly Duckling
The Coup

That's all I can think of for now, try youtube'ing those bands. I hope this helped you find some new music.

I'm a bit into hip-hop and such, so I thought I'd throw in some recomendations. Along the lines of roots manuva, I'm beginning to like the whole "grime" sort of thing. Check out "Dizzee Rascal" or "Wilzy". It sound very different from a lot of american hip-hop (as far as I know), but when you get used to it, it's really, really good.

I disagree on Kanye west being decent hiphop, because I absolutely loathe the guy, and his music is sort of boring (to me at least). I can really dig that you got Jurassic 5 on your list because it's one of my favorite acts (especially the "Power in numbers" album).

However, your list lacks 2 obvious artist.

1, KRS-ONE. He's a brilliant rapper. pick up "A retrospective" if you don't believe me.
2. Cypress Hill. I'm disappointed you forgot those. They made some good stuff before their brains were destroyed by THC, and they thought Rap-metal was a good Idea

Hope it helps out to whoever reads this thread ;)

Dizzee Rascal is pretty good. I only like a handful of songs that he's made though. If you like the whole british hip-hop, check out foreign beggars

I would have put cypress hill on there, but i'm not a huge fan. I like Insane in the membrane, Hits from the bong and Dr greenthumb. But truth be told I haven't listened to them in a long time.

But I guess this thread is throwing in your own opinions and bands for others to take a nibble at. C:
