Recently, I have often found myself lacking of decent anime or just TV series to watch.
As the title suggests, I am currently in search of steam-punk or, failing that, cyber-punk genre anime.
thoughts?

indeed it is, my friend. I'm unfortunate enough to be extremely picky in my watching and when i do find something, I seem to get bored rather quickly.

Until Game of Thrones came out recently, I haven't watched a TV show I actually enjoyed that wasn't long over and just up for reruns for nearly 5 years.

Does that answer your question?

Just be warned, it gets more and more dark and depressing as it progresses. Also, the story doesn't kick in until several episodes in. I kept going "what the fuck is going in?" constantly until episode 3-ish. The first one is a huge offender, as it doesn't even have dialogue at all. Just one or two spoken lines, if I remember correctly.

Anime only... don't watch much by way of latv...

Steampunk - Last Exile is pretty much the only good one going in recent years (that I've seen, that is as Fam - the Silver Wing was kinda *meh*).
Cyberpunk - GitS:SAC, Ergo Proxy, Serial Experiments Lain are all freakin' awesome (even if Ergo Proxy is more pseudo-intellectual heady-fucky than cyberpunk).

I have a couple. Both steampunk.

First, there's the new series, Avatar: The Legend of Korra.

Then, there's Fullmetal Alchemist. There's manga, an animé and another animé... like, this one.

I second all of these, although Ergo's plot grinds to a standstill at episode 13 or so and only picks up again at episode 20 (out of 24).
Edit: I don't recall the game show episode being explained either.

Damn, you beat me to it. D:

I guess the only other show I can think of off the top of my head is Warehouse 13. Alot of the artifacts they collect or use are steampunk in nature along with the warehouse it's self. I freaking love the Tesla and Farnsworth. :D
