Defiantly and Definitely

I don't really consider myself in the loop when it comes to trending memes. Lately (read: the last two hours of reading posts in several forums on several different sites) I have seen people consistently using defiantly where I would have expected to see definitely.

Now I ask you, Escapists, is this an epidemic of mis-informed spelling/careless typing, or are we on the verge of forever replacing definitely with defiantly?

To add some opinion here, any sentence along the lines of "I am defiantly going to preorder this game now" is perfectly good for a laugh, for me and/or the author. But do they do it intentionally?

It does look much cooler, but to replace our certainty with a deliberate disregard for authority seems like an odd trade off. And do we really need to do these things defiantly?

I defiantly await a answer too you're question.

I haven't noticed this happening but I'm generally very forgiving as I tend to make typos and grammar mistakes myself when I get tired that I normally have to ninja edit quickly.

I haven't noticed this, but I also haven't spent hours posting on forums. I've been on the forums, just too busy doing other... stuff.

But I still can't get over people constantly using 'your' instead of 'you're'. Whenever my mom texts asking me to get something done around the house and I let her know I've finished she replies with "Your the best!" /facepalm I constantly nag her when she makes these kind of errors, and she just replies with "Okay, fine, fine... jeez."

I see it everywhere, in my house, on the interwebs, and standing behind me!!!!11!!1! Dx

I often see it misspelled as "definately," but rarely "defiantly." Maybe some bad spellers actually are trying to make an effort with Spellcheck, but only end up picking the wrong suggestion.
I could see the two being close enough that a bad speller might not even notice spell check gave them the wrong word.

It's plain poor English, and it's hideous. Unfortunately, you're talking about one of THE [a href="http://grammar.about.com/od/words/a/misspelled200.htm"]most commonly misspelled words[/a] in the English language.

Seriously, you only get a pass for that if you're dyslexic. (Because a basic spellchecker would not pick up that error.)

Otherwise? Fail.

It does tend to be those members born in the early nineties that keep making these mistakes. I don't claim to be perfect and people do make mistakes but just an observation.
