Haha, that was an interesting bit of history to watch.
I see your point and how its important to machinima (as it started it and all that) but its also important in the way that those first 5-second films made millions of years ago which started cinema are; its a bit too old to be fully enjoyed haha but fully appreciated regardless (well, for me anyway)

Well I suppose it is true that a lot of milestones appear rather mundane, I'm sure this film will take its place among that stop motion of the galloping horse or whatever the first motion picture is...

Its important as its considered the first machinma. Is it the most important? I'd say Red vs. Blue holds a higher distinction of how machinma grew up. Being first is important, being great however, that's fucking brilliance.
