Yes we can. Its just if you make a politically incorrect or racist statement others are allowed to use their freedom of speech to cuss you the fuck out.

You have the freedom to say whatever you wish unless it falls under hate crimes (well in the UK anyway), which is fair enough.

We have freedom of speech...in our homes. The reason we can't say racist or un-PC outside of our homes is that no matter where you are, there will always be one person out there that will find these comments offensive.

That really doesn't sound like freedom of speech that much.

Well it does mean you can promote any political, theological or crazy viewpoint you want and no-one can stop you, you can shout about how our leaders are crap and how you believe everyone must worship the moon people if you wish. But you cannot go and start shouting that all blacks/homosexuals/immigrants are evil and an abomination on the earth. (Well you can do it as long as you don't direct it in a hateful manner towards someone or go around shouting it in public.) It sounds pretty free to me.

Legally, yes, or at least you legally have the freedom of speech to the extent that your speach doesn't hurt others (shouting fire in a crowded theatre, telling lies like "x had an affair" to dammage x's reputation, etc...). As far as racism or being un PC, you're free to say those things, but you have to realize, that other people are then FREE TO CRITICIZE YOU FOR SAYING THEM. This is called a social sanction. That is to say, freedom of speech is used to combat other freedoms of speech. And if you want to be on the side that wins that battle, you figure out what other people feel is and isn't acceptable. That, or you accept social sanctions and ostricization.

You have the right to say anything. Not every government grants you the liberty to exercise that right. The US appears the best at allowing the fullest freedom of speech. You can say racist and politically incorrect things; you can even say things that wold be termed hate speech by nanny states; others are also free to protest, speak back at you, and pressure your employer to relieve you of your job. The governments of the US, however, are pretty powerless to shut you up.

Exception:

Court. If you are looking for justice, by nice.

Public employees when acting in their office have gotten into some trouble. I do not see a problem here. There should never be anything illegal in terminating an employee; in such a case the government happens to be the employer. Note that criminal action is never taken.

Decency. Fuck the FCC! I hate everything for which they stand. Yes, you can't say various words on the air. I hate it, but it is easy to get around. Furthermore, one's meaning has never been at issue. While I cannot get on NBC and tell the government to go fuck itself, I can tell it to go eff itself.

This is one point where the US have not atrophied. We can say what we want without any fear of the government punishing us, but others may.

No it doesn't.

Yeah... that still doesn't sound like freedom of speech.

I would have to agree that our right to freedom of speech is being completely gutted, but the problem is that the people are not standing up and doing enough about it.

I pretty much just don't give a shit what people think about me being non-PC. They can all basically go stuff themselves and I steam forward with my sexist, mean and rude viewpoints.

PC is for commies!

Anon.

For instance, I can be all keyboard warrior and declare my hate against the blacks/whites/jews/christians/me/you/your mum with out any consequence. I am, anon.

However, I find that you can say things like the n word and other racial slurs because now a days, the have no real meaning, just like "swear" words.

I don't believe in "swear words" simply because there words; synonyms for another word. Or with a meaning not found any where else in the same way.

Who got to say that, this word is rude and you can't use it? I can use the words: pig, mother, your, and is to make a rude/insulting phrase. So why aren't they swear words?

I mean seriously

Fuck = sex.

...

What's wrong with that?! It's just another word for the same thing, they are hot swappable. There is nothing rude about it!

The Netherlands is famous for it's freedoms, I guess.. In the sex, drugs, and speech areas.

We're being bitten in the ass by freedom of speech atm. Geert Wilders is taking the piss, making desperate cries for attention with his freak hairdo and ridiculous statements.

Though I don't agree with him at all, I can say this, and he can say what he says. And I'm glad it works that way.

I do feel that we have freedom of speech.

And if you're the kind of person who wants to be allowed to suggest beating up people of a specific color, you shouldn't be out in normal daily life anyway.

Old people do. They can say whatever the hell they want.

America has freedom of speech, we just don't have freedom of hearing.

All depends on when, where and how you say something. If its a public or private forum, if it's a captive audience or not. But ultimately you do have the freedom to say most any religious or political things you want.

Fucked if I know. "Freedom of Speech" has less meaning today as it did say 20 years ago. Since the advent of "Political Correctness", people have used it as an excuse to stop people from saying what they don't like, which goes against the very freedom of speech. If you don't like what someone is saying, DON'T LISTEN.

But unfortunately there's no shortage of idiots out there trying to save the world from itself by tsk-tsking everything they feel is "politically incorrect" to the point of near-fascism.

So no, "freedom of speech" doesn't mean anything anymore, unless you're some retard rapper hiding behind it.

It doesn't matter what you say, sooner or later someone will take it out of context and be offended. Why? Because some people just don't have anything fucking better to do than be outraged at every little perceived slight or offense.

I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it

Political correctness does not in any way hamper the freedom of speech of an individual. You can't use somebody else's communications devices and arrangements to say something politically incorrect (well, they have the right to deny you, anyway), but you're still perfectly free to use your own devices.
