Compared to DoW 1 and all of it's expansions, I found it rather boring.
They just changed it too much. It is a good game, but it gets boring too fast.
Never tried multiplayer on it...

They should never have got rid of base building. Skirmishes were as dull as fuck on DoW II.

Yes, especially after you get the iron crown that gives you an impenetrable force field.

The first missions are simple enough, you meet some heavy hitters later on. You could try to ramp up the difficulty, have them lay on some more "dakka" on you? Keep at it, at least for a few more levels. I like it when developers think outside the box and try something new.

I'm quite fond of the DoW2 campaign. Especially in multiplayer, it can be tons of fun. Playing through it on Primarch now alongside a friend. Brutal stuff.

I quite enjoyed the campaign but got a bit bored of all the same-ness towards the end and stopped playing.

Maybe up the difficulty, but a couple of the missions I found to be very demanding on the Micro side of things, for example a while on into the campaign [near the end actually come to think of it] you face an Avatar of Khaine who uses a really powerful warp fire abilty to basically destroy a whole squad if you're not paying attention.

Also as one of your seargeants you get:

[spoiler/] Davian Thule, who becomes a dreadnought, and he becomes an incredibly powerful ranged unit if your put points into it[/spoiler]

Also i suck at MP too, in fact, i've been put up against rank 20+ players even though i'm rank 1 basically so i can't give you any tips but here's a link to a fans guide i found while randomly searching for Warhammer 40K lore:

I play the Campaign, Last Stand And the multiplayer

for the Campaign, it can get tedious and boring on the lower Difficulty's, you dont really need to start more Advanced tactics till Captain or Primarch Difficulty

may enjoy the other modes better

Both campaign and Multiplayer are fun, removing the basebuilding turned out better then I thought as it made the game way faster paced.

I've had to many bad experiances on Multiplayer to try it on RTS's anymore so I can't comment there.

I only played the beta and that was enough to put me off, I love base building so with that gone a large part of the games fun went with it.

I thought the last mission was by far the best, though I thought that it should have ended differently

I think that you should have been able to battle to the death taking as many nids with you as possible. When I first got the mission objective to do so I was surprised that the game would do that to a player, but almost immediately I was alright with it, it seemed to me to be a fitting end to the game.

Being a massive fan of the lore behind W40k I actually welcome the smaller scale employed in DoW2. It's much more in tune with what you always read in the novels: The Space Marines are humanity's last defense against innumerable hordes of enemies, extremely powerful but very few in numbers.
Also, if you want to get the most out of your squads and their abilities, especially on the more difficult game modes, you do have to use advanced tactics, otherwise you'll get ground into paste. It's simple enough in the first few missions, but later on the story gets a bit more interesting, the big story missions (such as the battle at Angel Forge) are pretty epic in scale, and some of the bosses are difficult to overcome, such as the Ork Waaaaaghboss or the Avatar of Khaine.
Oh yeah, and you'll get one more sargeant later on who kicks so much ass it's unreal.

EDIT: If things got a tad repetitive for you in the DoW2 campaign, check out the expansion pack Chaos Rising. They got rid of the grind aspect and added a well-designed Corruption mechanic to the gameplay which greatly influences both a big plot twist in the second half and the ending you'll get based on the seemingly tiniest of choices you make along the way.

It's not boring, but it can get pretty repetitive. I did really enjoy it at first, but it started to annoy me that I had to play some of the almost exact same missions twice.

DOW1 is one of the best RTS's ever and yet DOW2 was fucked. why it it that the people who make sequels feel that they have to do it differently. If it aint broke don't fuck it up.
