I'm in a depressed kind of music mood, and I really want to hear more depressing songs with mellow vocals and piano and stuff. Like Mad World by Gary Jules! If anyone has any songs that are similar to this, please post them.

Also, I just found a band called Summer at Shatter Creek. With lyrics like,

"If life is just a bunch of memories, then what are these?" and "When you've got no one, there's no one to lose."

They are goddamn amazing, please google and listen to them to find out what kind of music they play.

Snow Patrol - Run.

After a rather gutting break up, I hit the alcohol and the cigarettes to that song. Couldn't listen too it for a few years after.

Casimir Pulaski Day and Romulus by Sufjan Stevens, both depressing but also uplifting almost.

Okkervil Rivver's album Black Sheep Boy, an album of raw anger and sadness, goes from screaming to mellow indifference, but in a sort of "life is tough and beautiful" manner rather then just emo "life sucks"

Run by Coldplay is pretty good, I just don't like his voice very much.
And Falls Apart by Hurt is ok, I have never really like it that much either.

'Cause We've Ended as Lovers' by Jeff Beck, a heart-wrenching guitar solo of a song.

Oh yes, Karma Police by Radiohead is one of my favorites, I forgot to say that!

Sufjan Stevens is too happy at this point, and I don't much like the banjo.

Yeah, I have One X by them-they're pretty good. I spent a car trip listening to that whole album. Right now though anything mellow of non-rockish will work. Something involving a piano

listen to Depress Mode or Kurt Kobain's depressing grunge band. The music was so bad the lead singer killed himself.

Fair point, but you should try Okkervil Rivver, Black Sheep Boy seems to mirror perfectly my emotions when upset, crescendos of angry sadness wanting to rage at the world to points of completely exhausted emotional apathy.

One-X is pretty good. Nightwish is depressing at times and they use pianos in their music. I really don't know. Maybe Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven.

I just was on Pandora and I was listening to that song except it was by Eliza Lumley.. I'm unsure of which is better.

Many of these songs have a positive tone about the melody, but depressing lyrics. I'm straight going for depressing throughout, Street Spirit is a great example

Earshot - "Falls apart"
Seether - "Never Leave" or their cover of "Careless Whisper"
Crossfade - "Cold"
Fuel - "Hemmorrhage"

I could go on and on, but I usually classify these songs as fairly depressing (either by lyrics of just by sound).
