i have been depressed recently. like strangely often during the last 2 weeks or so. its basically caused by shit i wont go into right now, the jist being that i have never had a true functioning social life.

but anyway, i was wondering, escapists, have you felt depressed for a strangely long time? if so, why? and how did you get over it?

EDIT: wanna know my story? look down:
so theres friend A, friend B, groups C, D and F.
friend A is a good friend, but i only talk to him at school and on xbox, because he is best friends with my ex-best friend.
friend B is a good friend, but really fucking annoying.
group C doesnt give a flying fuck about me
group D is full of assholes that fuck with everyone, including telling their good friend, whom they didnt really like but hid it: no one likes him. at all, never did, hes a loser, etc.
group F are the cool kids, who im friends with and talk to at school, but dont have the balls to like ask to hangout or something fearing rejection, or worse, them going and hating it.
add on the fact that i want a girlfriend, but all the girls i try flirting with (im bad at it) dont give me any signs.
so yea, not horrile, but it just shows me that i feel like no one cares about me except my family, which is amazing :)

Pretty much same thing here (for a pretty long time, and due to not having social life). But i feel depressed mostly in the evenings (at other times i'm fine), and it certainly has to do with weather constantly changing as of late.

Sorry still to depressed to help, it is mostly due to the inherent loneliness that I have and various other kinks in the chain of my life.

Just go to town tonight and have a few beers. Always helps and maybe you'll make some friends.

For some reason I fell into a deep melancholy about a week or two before the end of year holidays at my school. The weird thing was I was looking forward to the holidays, there was little sadness at the passing of another year... it was unexplainable. I was stuck with it for a little over a fortnight till I downloaded some new music and eventually I forgot that I was meant to be sad.

Not having social life actually did that for me for years. Also not sleeping properly (That is the "getting depressed specially at evenings" part that you get.) And I know, if you are depressed, you can not sleep so good. It's a circle, but when you are tired the world seems to collapse on you. So nowadays when I start getting good old depression I ask myself "are you tired", before getting into my thoughts.

Nowadays I don't feel depressed, but I would still probably be depressed if I would not have found my current girlfriend. That... well fixed my mental state a bunch. Im not that social but I think humans are not ment to be alone.

I have been and still am extremely depressed. Often my mind drifts to thoughts that worsen it, unless I keep myself preoccupied. So being bored is often when I get the lowest as my thoughts wander, as I am always thinking. Makes sleeping hard, so I use music and television to ease me to sleep.
I know what will help me, but getting to it is difficult. Getting in shape, and getting out more would help, but knowing and doing are different.

Everybody gets depressed at some stage.

I've recently come out of a 2 year slump. The secret is disregarding all the negativity. Which is hard. I mean, it took me 2 years, but its possible.

My girlfriend of close to a year moved home forever this morning. Trouble is that she lives in Thailand, I live in the US. That's pretty depressing, right? Taking her to the airport was....not fun.

I'm a pretty depressed person in general though. I have extremely bad anxiety and low self-esteem. I have a decent social life and a few really good friends, which helps. But I'll still always be depressed until I can beat these anxiety and self-esteem issues.

If you need to someone to chat with, PM me.

P.S. Have you thought about getting a dog? Mine is my best bud. He can cheer me up all the time.
You soundly creepily similar to me right here.

Decent social life, little to no self esteem, anxiety, long distance girlfriend.
S'good to know you're not alone.

That's me in a nutshell. I've been having troubles with anxiety/self-esteem for a few years now. My girlfriend has actually helped me with it a little bit, I kinda feel like I'm going to be set back with her leaving. But, what can you do? It is reassuring that I'm not alone. Unfortunately, you have to face the same issues that I have and I wouldn't wish that upon you, lol. It's not all bad though, friends can get you through a lot.

How far away is your lady?
Oh aye, friends can be the best safety net, thank god for them. My relationship has always been long distance though, so for you it'll be different going from a year together to that.
Mine's not as far as yours but still a hell of a mission for an 18 year old to make. Scotland, so from here it's about 420 miles, slightly more I think.

Depression is really common. Important things to remember: keep in contact with family and friends. Try to be kind to yourself (if you don't care about you, who will?). Keep in good physical health (walk your dog)and watch your thoughts (negative thoughts mean negative feelings).

If you reach a state where you aren't functioning properly anymore, don't be scared to see a doctor. I did, and its good I did, cause I was eventually diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Best of luck :)

Yep I've been depressed for awhile. I lack confidence in myself and suffer serious anxiety's that prevent me from accomplishing my goals in life.
