damn that's a big word! Phew.

Anyway, do you think video games have desensitized you in some way? Especially to real world violence?

I don't think it has desensitized me to real world violence. But definitely to animated violence.
I can remember playing Soldier of Fortune way back and nearly puking because of all the gore. Now I can mow down every citizen in an airport or dismember pixelated children and criticize the game for not showing a realistic amount of spinal vertebrae or exposed organs.

I'm not sure I could say that video games alone desensitised me.
I'm pretty sure films, anime, and books also helped.
I just find blood and gore funny. heh.
But hell, why not? I'm not desensitised, just twisted!

I guess it's sort of desensitized me to video game violence, but that's mainly because the games I play just don't depict violence in a realistic way. I'd say the most violent game I currently own is GTA, or maybe Mortal Kombat Deception. There's blood, sure, but it's cartoonish, you know? You push a guy into a pillar of spinning blades, and he comes out a pile of red meat chunks and bone splinters. It's Looney Toons with blood. I've seen similar if not worse on Tom and Jerry. It's just not real to me, and I doubt it ever will be.

Seeing acts of violence and harm in real life is something I doubt I'll ever be completely used to.

I don't get desensitized I don't think because I try to keep my head. I realize that I am just destroying binary code. I can have a rocket launcher that has the ability to down manhattan and use it fine in a game, but when I go to a fireing range I definitally get nervous around weaponry. Blood in games doesn't bother me but I can't disect animals. It only can really screw you up when you become to sucked into the game in my opinion.

You want a big word? Try pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.

OT: Only the news. If I saw someone get shot right in front of me, I would still react the same as someone who doesn't play video games.

Naw. It's just code. In the same way a book is just words, or a film is just a series of images with sound.

Well, losing one of my favourite dogs (searching in progress) desensitized me that's for sure. Though games certainly didn't. I can't understand how anyone couldn't be concerned about those poor souls in Haiti though.
Didja hear they got hit by another Earthquake? 6.1 magnitude.

Not to real world violence, no... Cinematic violence, yes. But not just games. Strangely though, I always wince whenever Homer accidentally makes himself bleed in the Simpsons, like when he tries to be the Fonz and smashes the jukebox with his hand. Maybe that's just too close to real life for me...

The only thing video game violence desensitises me is to more video game violence. I played manhunt years ago and thought it was funny, not gruesome in the slightest. In real life I get a bit nervous if i see someone bleed. I could never really dissect animals well either...

It is a lung diesease that you get from inhailing volcanic fumes. Also, I think some doctors have a sense of humour. If I could pronounce that I would use it to sound smart, like doctors do.

Yes...

And i think it'll probably make my eyesight go out and give me cancer aswell. I'll probably die lonely and fat aswell... but thats probably not so much the games fault as my bad personality.

Not even close. Real violence and terror is still a very real and horrible thing to me. I would say that anyone with any substantial amount of empathy wouldn't be affected by videogame violence.

OT: No I do not. I am still sickened when I hear about shootings. And I get real pissed when the media tries to blame video games.
