I feel like a moan. I'm sure there's no shortage of bitching on this forum (in fact I've been here long enough to be positive of that fact), but I just wanted to open a discussion to highlight some design fails that have really irritated anyone recently. I'll start with a big one I came across the other day.

Whilst staying at my parents I've been playing on their Wii for the first time in some years, and at this point I feel the need to explain that I own a playstation and an xbox and in addition a PC for work and a DVD player, all of which physically do basically the same thing. By which I mean you open them up and put a disc inside. It's possible you can see where this is going now.

When I wish to load a disc into one of these machines I open the disc tray, I press the centre tab inside of games the box, pop the disc out so my finger is through the central hole and put it down on the respective tray. This is a tried and tested method that comes almost instinctively, but most of you will be aware that this is not how the Wii works. Upon first approaching the Wii (game in hand and on finger) I eyed it curiously but not being completely brain dead was able to find the sideways disc feed and inserted the disc, however, the ridiculously sensitive intake system snatched the disc as soon as it brushed the inside of feed and having picked up the game as previously discussed my finger was immediately trapped in the centre hole and squashed between the game and the console itself.

Is it me or is this pretty fucking stupid design? Fair enough, I've learnt my lesson and have managed to not make the same mistake twice, but the sideways intake coupled with the over enthusiastic suction of the console can't mean I'm the only person to have ever done this, or at least come close. The design of a game disc means it's supposed to be picked up by the centre to avoid touching and damaging the disc itself. If I am wrong of course and am the only person ever stupid enough to have done this feel free to laugh and call me names.
