Hello everybody!
So recently I've been wanting to play a game in which you can design your own vehicle, ship, whatever from scratch and use it in-game. As many games have design your own character particularly in RPGs and some you can change weapons or details of vehicles but never complete design. I want a game where you design your own ship and sail the seas, or build a spaceship and burn it through space. However the only game to even try to match this is Spore and well, it's Spore. So if anyone knows of any games past, present or future that lets you design or build your own vehicle before going into game with it please reply here and let me find it!
Many Thanks.

Infinite Space i believe works in a similar fashion, it is a DS game with difficulty curve that makes Dark/Demon Souls games seem like a walk in the park.

You can literally die from a random fight in the first area.

Shores of Hazeron is pretty much built on this premise, from what i understand. Unfortunately I can't actually play it (graphics card issues), but you might want to take a look: http://hazeron.com/

There was also that top-down flash space shooter in which you built your ship out of the blocks you blasted off your enemies, but the name escapes me at the moment. I think it might have had the word "Captain" in the title?

You can check out Naval Ops: Warship Gunner and Warship Gunner 2 (don't bother with Commander unless you're a fan of top-down combat) for the PS2. They're a bit dated now, but they're pretty much exactly what you're asking for: design and build a warship and take it into combat. There's a range of options from WWII up to futuristic technology like rail-guns, so it's fairly versatile in that regard.

Not quite. You buy a blueprint of a spaceship to built it and give it a name. The interior is up to you to choose (it's like tetris, given different shapes like the control room or the battle command room etc to fill the inside of the ship). Other then that (and choosing weapons and fighters for the ship) you cannot change the apperance of the ship at all (you can't even give it a new paint job).

OT- Sorry but I only know Spore that can let you fully customise any vehicles etc to your choosing

Uhhhh...Spore? Spore lets you construct your own spaceship, boat, plane, and land vehicle. As well as your creature's outfits, and other stuff. Good game for people who want to let their creativity soar (Within limits)

He's already said he doesn't care for Spore (or implied it, at least), there's no point pushing that on him.

I really do recommend Naval Ops though, BloodGreed, I think it's more or less exactly what you want.

Thanks for suggestions guys, I will look up all of these but yeah problem about minecraft and certain others is when you do build what you want you can't use it. This mainly came from playing Spore were if you do make the thing you want the game does not match the level of creation you have. If you build a pirate ship it still shoots lasers in an odd way :L
