So I have a question for all you Destiny fans out there. I've been following this game nonstop since they released the trailers and i've been excited to know end for it to come out.

BUT. Why is it that games from EA (Dead Space 3 mostly) get shit on when they announce DLC a month before release, but Destiny is being praised and accepted by everyone in the internet community after announcing DLC months in advance. I've always been alright with the idea of DLC and i'm not bashing Destiny for having it. I'm just curious why Destiny can have such a awesome following and hardly any controversy but anything from EA gets shit on right off the bat.

I'm writing this after finding out Destiny is only going to have 4 locations to visit; Earth, The Moon, Mars and Venus. Which imo sucks a lot because Earth (or Old Russia in general) wasn't very exciting and was kind of small.

First. How can you be a fan of somethinf that isn't out yet? Is it like early access fandom? Seriously what is.

Second. I was planning to buy this game but what you are saying is making me want to change my mind. Is it payed DLC? Day one dlc? What exactly are they going to add and when?

Third. I would like a source so i can look into this myself.

Also, i guess since it's a kind of free to play mmo, i can sorta understand why they would add dlc . Usually the updates are free or there is a cash shop, so taking that into account it kind sorta makes sense. It really depends on what they are releasing and for how much.

Well first off, this DLC-one-month-into-release business is BS no matter who does it or whatever.

I think the main issue is that EA has a history of being colossal pricks about it, where Bungie does not (even is Activision is involved).

It could also be an issue of saturation. I have not heard of the DLC until just now, and I bet many of the people who flip their shit at this kind of thing have not heard about it yet.

Or maybe not I don't know I'm taking shots at the dark here.

That being said I totally was not interested in the game until just like last week when I started looking up all the info I have been neglecting for 6 months.

I hope its good :(

EA has a horrible reputation with the way they handle/release their DLC and they use micro-transactions. Bungie on the other hand has never used micro-transactions (at least to my knowledge) and release quality DLC "Expansion packs" that normally contain a reasonable amount of content for the price.

As far as DLC goes, the Expansion Pass that's currently being talked about contains 2 DLC packs. One of them adds additional missions, gear/weapons, coop stuff, etc. Supposedly it takes place on the moon against the Hive. I think it's called "The Dark Below" or something like that. Can't remember the name of the 2nd Dlc, but I know it deals with the Fallen. Quick Google search says "Den of Wolves" so we'll go with that.

Also, there will be more playable areas than just those four planets. Those are the four "Explorable areas" available at "launch". There has been a lot of talk about Mercury, Europa (one of Jupiter's Moons) and a derelict space craft floating in Saturn's ring. There's also "The Reef" which is essentially the asteroid belt. There was recently news about missions possibly being held there and and a crucible arena on Mercury named "The Burning Shrine" which could possibly mean that there is more. Plus, with daily activities/events (like Iron Banner from Beta), weekly 3+ hour raids, day and night strike missions, and bounties, I'm sure there will be plenty of content in this game.

I'm more curious about how the DLC process will work. The Expansion pass has already been announced. The first of the two expansions takes place on an already announced planet. I'm assuming the second will be two. Maybe the additional planets are being saved for Destiny 2. Maybe content will be rolled out for free over time. Or Maybe along with the Expansion pass there is an additional Season pass. No one really knows yet so there is no point in jumping to conclusions.

Of course most of this is just speculation and honestly, I don't like how vague Bungie is about everything. :/
It's still a day one purchase for me, though.

How hyped are people for Destiny, really? Maybe its because of the way I feel about it personally, but I get the feeling that Escapists generally are not too excited. A lot of people will probably buy it when it comes out, but it doesn't seem to have really caught many people's imagination too much. I don't remember having seen a lot of threads about it. I could be completely wrong about this.

I think the issue with Dead Space 3 was that EA changed the weapon upgrade model to have a micro-transaction based, then a lot of their DLC was weapon/suit based (or worse resource packs to help you build guns which people felt should have been included anyway). There was one mission based DLC, if that got flak it was probably because the game had already generated a certain critical mass of controversy already by that point. From what I can see Destiny DLC is mainly mission/multiplayer-map based and I think this is less controversial, but...

It may be (as seems increasing the case with the new generation) that we get less content in the original game, then get charged for the extra as DLC. I didn't play the beta, but from the demos I've seen, Destiny felt big, and possibly people are giving it the benefit of the doubt. If the beta felt small, maybe people will start to complain (In which case Bungie were smart to have announced the DLC before the beta).

I don't know what internet you come from, but on the one I browse the vocal minority has unanimously declared Destiny awful CoDshit for stupid losers practically since the they first saw the logo.

OT: To answer your question: EA gets more shit because they are EA and the internet loathes EA with a burning passion as hot as one thousand George Foreman grills whether its logical or not.

praised left and right? you've clearly not visited the bungie forums. there's nothing but people whining.

let me give you a rundown of the threads

"____ is OP, pls nerf"
"wah! no matchmaking for raids wah!"
"bungie y u favor PS now, also wah!"
"y r males playin a female characters?" AKA: "i accidentally creeped on dudes and now i'm upset"
"this isnt like COD and that bothers me, change it naow!!"

then of course there's the ongoing debates on whether the purple ball is better than the soccer ball in the tower. (FYI: purple ball forever)

As far as I've known places like this and PC gamer hate Destiny simply because it's not touching PC, I remember all the hundreds of articles whenever a PC exclusive didn't touch a console though (there's the hint).
