What from Deux Ex 1 would you like to see in Deux Ex 3, and what if anything
would you like to see cut.

For me I'd like a less fiddly inventory system (spent ages throwing away LAM's so I could install
a scope for my crossbow and needless stuff like that in DX1 :)

Also I'd like it if all the speech in a conversation was optional not just default stuff your character says to move the story along.

That's my 2c for now, Big fan of Deus Ex 1, but after playing Duke Nukem Forever I know how shit and over-hyped long awaited sequels can be, so I'm really on the fence about DX3 atm.

The skill system above all else. I hated that they took it out of IW. And I liked the inventory. You had to choose what you did and didn't bring and weigh your options. That's good. I also hope they bring back all the vents. Makes for fun sneak attacks and recon.

Come to think of it, there's nothing from the first I don't want in the new one. Seriously, I even liked the voice acting. I thought the emotionless voices worked in the settings favour. Even the bad guys don't actually sound all that angry with you when they're trying to kill you. A lack of human emotion from people born and raised to control people like so much cattle just really works.

Also, you misspelled Deus Ex every time except in your last paragraph.

I liked the restrictive inventory, but I think they could tweak the shape of a couple items. No examples though, been too long.

From what I saw in the first 2 hours of the leaked beta, the inventory is actually worse than that of DX1. Ammo uses space, and you can only have x amount per stack.

And who would ever get rid of LAMs in DX1? You can carry a sniper rifle, a pistol, a tranquilizer crossbow, a shotgun, three types of grenades, medkits, techgoggles, a hazmat suit, AND a GEP gun and still have at least a space or two for picking up mods.

Also I'd like it if all the speech in a conversation was optional not just default stuff your character says to move the story along.
There are a lot more options in conversations now, at least in several key conversations at certain plot points.

Human Revolution is the third one.
Unless that was a dig at invisible war. Then that was kinda awesome.
And voice acting that isn't of a half-sleeping racist stereotype would be nice.

I hope that they make the interface a bit more intuitive. I HATED when I would loot bodies in DX1, and then have to then go into my inventory and chuck the combat knives and batons I would ALWAYS be forced to pick up everytime I looted a body.

I like the way you think, sir.

OT: My prediction is that Deus Ex 3 is going to be a classic, and will hopefully age as well as the original Deus Ex did. Everything I see about it looks very good, and from a visual design perspective alone it's stellar. Hopefully no racist accents this time around, though :)

The entire game is looking gravy, but I'm not getting how by the time of Deus Ex the whole world has gone back to 2001 clothing and building styles but in the past, it's all super fantastic.

When I played Deus Ex on Realism difficulty LAMs were always my best friend because almost every skirmish could kill you easily, and I installed the "Machines can't see you" augmentation simply because bots would instantly annihilate you on sight.

Dunno why you'd throw away one of the most useful items in the game besides gas grenades.

My mind was blown by how pun-like it is that your sentence about Invisible War is invisible. But no, it wasn't a dig at it, because that game was never released. I think I remember hearing about it getting cancelled a year or so before its release date.

OT: ...I got nothing. From what I've heard of the new one, it's already keeping the best parts of the first and fixing whatever needed fixing.

But I hope there's still that badass stealth pistol. That thing was my bro through the entire game.

I'd like to see the skill system back, but maybe make it a bit more sensible. There's no need for skills like Environmental Training or Swimming, and a skill like Persuade would work, considering that you're supposed to be able to solve a lot of your problems by conversation. Other than that, everything the first one did worked absolutely fine.

I actually liked the grid style inventory system in Deus Ex. I prefer it to an encumbrance or item number based limit as seems to be the standard now. The only thing I didn't like was being forced to pick up everything someone was carrying just to get the one thing you needed (usually ammo or a key or something), before having to drop all of the useless crap they were also carrying, like candy bars, knives, batons, un-upgraded regular pistols etc.

Manual takedowns from DX1. I loathe the push-button takedown system in DX:HR, it's like the developers are saying "you can't be trusted to actually click the buttons to make your character do the actions of a takedown, but here's a gold star and a lollipop for turning the game on".

I know they do it because they don't want to do the programming for such a system, but they are wasting a terrific chance to put a great mechanic into the game.

I'd like the guns to actually work like guns, this time. There's nothing I hate more in games than shooting bullets into people and having them act like you're just throwing pebbles until the magical last bullet that actually kills them. All old fps's are guilty of that, though, and it's been mostly fixed in modern gaming since Deus Ex, so I'm assuming it won't be a problem.

That's about it. Other problems with the first one are non-issues thanks to modern gaming conventions (I'm thinking about the underwhelming open/populated areas in Deus Ex, which felt like underpopulated boxes just pretending to be parts of cities or outdoor areas, which they were).

Eh I dont get take downs in deus ex 1 where nothing more more than sneak up behind who ever you wanted and hold down left click till the guy falls over at least now we get a bit of flare and a neat animation instead of somthing awkward and stiff

personaly i dont know what i would want as from the looks of it everything i want is already in so im gona say the releace of the game

Sorry to hijack OP, but what's with all the DX2 hate?

Sure it was a little buggy, didn't connect much with the original plot and they kinda threw in vampires out of nowhere [http://store.steampowered.com/app/2600/], but it was still pretty damn good.

I like how the text is invisible.

OT: Less obtuse inventory (item tetris is rarely fun. And by rarely I mean never.) and better voice acting. But I've played the leak so I know these things aren't really a problem! Woo! So I guess I'll say what I'd like is, while I like the "golden-age" visual motif, I think it needs to be used a littttttle less.
