Yes yes, I know, this is another Devil May Cry thread after the whole "OMG DmC" fiasco, but let me lay my points down, because this is somewhat different...somewhat..
[hr]
I'm going to start of with some back story here. The Devil May Cry series first started off as Resident Evil 4, and was headed by the Resident Evil series' director, Hideki Kamiya; somewhere down the line though, the project started making huge deviations from the main points of the RE franchise, so instead of scrapping the project entirely, a new game series for Capcom was born.
You played as Dante, a young half human/half demon devil hunter for hire. You had 2 goals within, be as stylish as possible, and try to stop the rise of the Demon Emperor Mundus, that your father sealed before you. Slowly but surely, Devil May Cry grew into a hit, and a must-own title for the PS2, and the fans were craving for more. So after the completion of the game, Kamiya left the project to work on the REAL Resident Evil 4 and later form Clover Studios, leaving the creation of Devil May Cry 2 with an entirely different team.
While it turned into an ok game in and of itself, Devil May Cry 2 was not exactly what the fans were asking for, with its vast differences and tones from the first game as well as its poor story. It has been for the most part, christened with the title of "worst title in the franchise", but for it's downfalls, it also introduced many main gameplay aspects, such as Bloody Palace, faster combat, and newer and unique combos attacks(such as Twosome Time, and Fireworks) which would later benefit greatly to the next title of the series.
Devil May Cry 3, again made with different team, Capcom takes a shot at explaining Dante's backstory, and ends up succeeding with flying colors. DMC3 is universally acclaimed, as its held on high for its difficulty, fun gameplay, flash, and story. More fans came pouring in, to live through Dante's beginning and tribulations, to slash and gun through missions and to be as stylish as possible.
After the high ground that DMC3 had set, it would be quite a task for DMC4 to try to live up to its older brother's reputation. While not doing nearly as well as DMC3, DMC4 allowed more new blood into the franchise by introducing a new character into the series, Nero, and by releasing its first entry into Next-gen with bold graphics and gameplay mechanics. Through Nero, you were allowed the use of the Devil Bringer, a demon infected arm, which allowed you to throw, grapple, or shield yourself with the various demons you came across. Still keeping with the DMC3 playstyle with a few tweaks, it gained its own little following within the series like all the other title had previously.
So, while Devil May Cry may have switched hands from time to time, each person adding their own new look onto the series, and adding more and more to the gameplay and overall mechanics, each one has still kept the same vibe of "cool" and "stylish" and has established Dante as an iconic video game character.
So basically, the main question here is, for fans and others alike is, what attracted you to the series? And which title is your favorite and why?
[hr]
So the main question here is: What actually do you think of this new direction of the franchise?

I have followed the series since the start, and while I think that the new game might end up turning out ok, I feel like it's a real stab in the back to fans of the series. There was no reason for a reboot. Each game as sold a significant ammount, the people still love and want the same old gameplay and the same old Dante, and its not like Capcom is in severe financial troubles(though they did have one of their worse years LAST year). And not that reboots are bad in and of themselves, but from what we have seen so far, there is little to no recognition that this game and the DMC series are one in the same beside having a main character called Dante and being called DmC. I just hope that they don't change the gameplay too much.
Devil May Cry isn't no regular hack n'slash, it isn't God of War, it isn't Dante's Inferno, and it isn't Dynasty Warriors, where you button mash to do as much damage as possible. The point of DMC always has been and always will be, to be stylish. It doesn't matter how much damage you do to that enemy or that boss, as long as you combo it up and make it look cool while doing so. You want to be doing stuff like this:
You want to be getting those S ranks, or doing those no-hit runs. It's not about the story(though the story is decent enough itself), its about overcoming odds, beating those difficulties and showing off while doing it, which I hope DmC can do....[sub]because nothing in that TGS trailer of it was stylish at all =S...[/sub]

[HEADING=2]The Backlash[/HEADING]
So as most fans were, we were waiting for any news of a 5th installment into the DMC franchise(each game has been released within a ~3 year gap), and finally we get some news, DMC at Tokyo Game Show! The day finally comes and the announcement arrives:DmC....a reboot of the series....made by Ninja Theory...with a western tone.....
So far, the game has taken an almost universal negative reception, with complaints ranging from the reason for a reboot, to the new look of the main character, "Dante", as well as the overall style of the game.So the main question here is: What actually do you think of this new direction of the franchise?
