Maybe I'm just ignorant and haven't heard the news, but I was really expected Dead Space 2 to set off a firestorm of hate against video games. It's almost a month into the game's release and nothing, not even a FOX News broadcast has caught wind of the face-stomping, baby 'sploding, horribly fucked up shit that's in this game (but it's so, so very glorious).

Are the haters tired or something?

I didn't even know it was out yet. Maybe it was just how they marketed it. They basically dared people to start a riot about it. Hell, they threw the first stone. "A game your mom will hate" or something like that.

Maybe it's just because i'm only on the part right after the anti-gravity room, but it seems like a pretty average game.

Gaming community is overlooked and is usually the "OMG WE HAVE NOTHING INTERESTING TO AIR....RIP ON GAMES!!!!" last resort plan. That and none of them really play so they wouldn't ever know. Besides Egypt is still a mess so a lot has been focused on that.

well dead space 2 was marketed to 13 year-olds (using similar tactic that cigarettes used to).
using "your mother will hate this"? really? we're above this. (I've felt this way even before ENN said this so don't say it) i have no sympathy for that game.

The media generally doesn't have a problem with violent games provided the violence isn't presented in a realistic context (the difference between "infected" and "zombie" excluded). As Dead Space is a science fiction game that has you fighting alien things, it's unlikely that anyone would kick up a stink about it, unless the rating had been too low.

because BULLETSTORM IS MARKETED FOR 9 YEAR OLDS AND MAKES THEM RAPISTS!!!!! OH MY GOD VIDEO GAMES ARE EVIL!!!.
I really hate when people freak out and think that games cause violence. earlier today my mom saw me playing persona 4 (yes I'm 19 and live at home, big deal) and freaked out when she saw the scale enemies and thought I was a satanist killing crosses (shes big into religion and I haven't told her I'm agnostic yet)

Because its hardly anything that bad. We've seen far worse stuff already in the medium.

The media these days seems more likely to go into blind rage over sexuality (as mentioned above) because the violence issues are the same tired arguments they were when Doom was out and about.

Also, there was revolution in Egypt, a war on terrorism, natural disasters, man made disasters, politicians being half naked, politicians being shot, politicians planning on running for president (yeah- I'm in the US), and a crippled economy. I guess space zombie monsters didn't cut it this week.

I think it's because Bulletstorm is taking the media wind-up this time around.

the reason noone reported anything was because A) dead space made a joke of getting angry over it and B) all this protesting BS in Egypt has stolen the spotlight for now

Agreed Egypt stole the show, and Bullestorms Rapist factory as well, the only real hate i have heard is that awesome group of moms who hate the game...one day this medium will be praised like all the rest....

Sgt. Sykes said:
Yeah, interesting. Actually I don't remember any horror game to cause any sort of uproar. And you could shoot babies in Doom 3 as well. And what about Silent Hill, FEAR and other games with evil little girls.

I guess all those parents, psychologists and journalists are afraid to even look at a scary game. Maybe they're afraid they won't be able to sleep at night, or that it will steal their souls if they even think about it.
They have souls?

OT: You make an interesting point. Maybe, in an unheard of burst of intelligence, they realized that the disturbing imagery was supposed to be an integral part of the horror? Nah, I doubt it. It's probably more that horror games aren't really marketed as much as other AAA titles, therefore maybe the news doesn't quite pick up on it as well as, say, No Russian in MW2.

maybe they're covering actual news? Or have they got so many commentator shows that they don't have teh time to slot in what they'd like to(I'd call it, "real news" but that's justbullshit when talking about fox)

One word: Egypt. As someone stated earlier on this post, when the news has nothing to report(which is next to always) they find a way to blame some form of media, whether it be movies, music, or, in current day and age, video games. When Dead Space 2 was released, the biggest thing a news channel could do was to be the first to report something on the Egyptian riots. The diamond for a news channel would be to be the first to announce the resignation of the Egyptian President. Fox thought they could be first, so they directed all of their news powers toward it, either missing or not caring about Dead Space 2's violence. Once they lost their chance at being first at the huge report, they came up with the whole "Bulletstorm=Rapist Trainer" story.

Bulletstorm and DNF are going to be the big media targets believe me. DNF is going to turn kids into pimps and Bulletstorm is going to turn 6 yr olds into rapists.

Who else is with me for raising hell when our kids develop virtual reality? I don't see why they should get off easy >.>
