So tonight I was called a scrub at FNM. Now I know what the term is supposed to mean(person who wants their opponent to play the way they want to) or was it changed from the above to noob?

It was my understand in that a scrub was a sore beginner.

Like a noob but with explicitly bad behavior/sportsmanship.

At least in gaming, noob is some one new, a scrub is new and antagonizes everyone because of their own inexperience.

At least how I have heard it.

Exactly. When it was used against me, it was "You look like a scrub" and refused to play with me because of it.

I don't really get how you can *look like* a scrub. Were you wearing a t-shirt inviting everyone to apply gentle suction to your genital area?

Shame on people for not posting this immedately.

I've never heard the word "scrub" used in everyday context so I have no idea.

Well among my friend group calling someone a scrub is a term of endearment, but then this is my friend group, and we changed the definition ourselves for trolling purposes so..... meh, I dunno? xD

To my mind, scrubs are players who see tactics, weapons, equipment or characters that have a strong advantage in some area, and instead of trying to develop a tactic or strategy to counter them, immediately decide said tactic/weapon/equipment/character is game breakingly overpowered and should be banned, even if said t/w/e/c has a fairly easy counter if you just try.

Related to the guy who throws tantrums if they don't get to use their favorite t/w/e/c and expects every match they play to cater solely to it, and sort of the flipside of the guy who believes anybody not using the most powerful t/w/e/c is playing the game wrong and has to be told how much they suck untill they do.

I was under the impression a scrub was someone who was really bad at a game but claimed they were good. Like just mashing out Shoryukens for an entire match then claiming they're the best.
But it's rare I see it used for just that one meaning. I think it just comes under the same class as insult as "noob". Y'know, when someone wants to insult you in a game without having to think about what they're saying.

I don't think an AC/DC should do that. I think it was cause I'm new to the area.

I remember it being used in the show "Scrubs" to call over an intern which are basically newbies.

And then there's online to which it's basically always been used as "noob" or something similar. What do you mean it was used just to be mean? noob is kinda used for the same reason aint it? be mean and calling someone inexperienced.

In my experience, the only thing any insult means in an online game is that the guy making the insults is a butthurt loser.
For example: While playing Team Fortress 2, I wipe out half the enemy team as a heavy and I get called a noob by a member of the enemy team. Was I new to the game at the time? No. Did I play in a way that doesn't contribute to the team's victory? No.

Conclusion: Just ignore these guys. I doubt half of them actually know what the word scrub means.

It was called Scrubs because it was a medical comedy, and they wore scrubs (what you see nurses and doctors wearing), though there could be a double meaning to it.

A scrub is someone who sucks at something, usually something that is competitive. Back when I played football you would call someone a scrub if they were just plain awful, though we didn't really differentiate between new players and players who had been at it for a while, scrubs are scrubs no matter what. Basically, someone who is inferior.

A scrub is a sponge with a scratchy part on one side.

That's what we are talking about.... right?

Newbs and noobs are the same thing, someone who is new and doesn't know what to do. A scrub is someone who knows what to do. They use a strategy that gets them easy wins, and when they lose they keep using it then when they keep losing they call the other player a cheater and a fag and whatever. Basically everyone who sends hatemail is a scrub.
