Shame really. Digital distribution is the enemy and all that.
This gets blurted out rather commonly around here. Elaborate, mebee?
For the sake of convenience, people are trading in their freedoms.
Read some Experienced Points articles. There's just so many things wrong with Digital distribution.
I have to agree with his articles because they are truth incarnate 99% of the time, but there are
some benefits to Steam. And I refer only to Steam in this case. At the moment (disregard the future of DD) Steam is essentially a cleverly disguised DRM and money making machine, devised by Valve so that people can't steal their material. While this sounds quite evil you have to look at it from different angles.
You get a profile, steam friends and a whole network with which to communicate in-game or otherwise. You have access to weekly deals that are cheaper than anywhere else and your games are compiled in one program, so they are easier to find. Try to look at is as beneficial to you and not as a hindrance. Although I did buy the Witcher recently for ?30 and then it was ?16 the next day. That really annoyed me.
Anyway, what it is right now is ok. They offer you features to compromise with their DRM technology. It is what it could become that worries me.
