It's a little silly for me but I always wanted to become a blacksmith (not sure if this is a dying profession but I don't see a lot of them, do you?). The reason for this was to make my own cool stuff like a suit of armor or swords but I also realize that their are very few jobs for true blacksmiths in today's world.
So how about you my fellow escapist? Have you ever wanted to go into a dying profession just for the coolness factor?

I know a finnish black-smith and forgive me if I'm conforming to the cliche here but he is "a mountain of a man who's laughter booms like thunder". Great guy, and exeptionaly talented, black-smithing may not be as imprtant to everyday life in today's world but there's still love for a good old fashioned black-smith or two, I say go for it :).
As for me, my heart's set on writting, but from when I was five up till when I was seven I wanted to be a pirate, A true canons and parrots pirate.

Thank you for excluding all girls from this thread with the use of "brothers".

And I'd like to be an actress. So no, no interest in a dying profession.

I'm in what people have been calling a 'dying profession' since TV: Radio!
But we're still going strong! Take that, television! We're even beating Satellite Radio! HAH! Nice try, Sirius! Maybe next time...if you don't go completely bankrupt first!
Har har har!

She's right, "fellow escapees" would be better.

...hmm...actually, I wouldn't mind taking up blacksmithing as a hobby.
As for dying professions, I still wish to become a published author. How's that for a dying profession? >.>

For a good many years now, I've dreamed of owning/working in a record store. But, thanks to the Internet, not to mention CDs, my profession of choice is also dying.

Also, the only record-store owner I know is perma-fried. That didn't make the job seem any more glorious.

I think every child at some point wants to be a pirate. Or a ninja. Or, in the case of girls, and actress.

Well I probably spent more time in full pirate gear than "normal" cloths when I was a kid :). Also my (then) best friend was a girl and she was dreaming of a life on the high seas to, so it's not like they can't want to be ninjas or pirates, though that might not have been what you were implying, the feminist inside me is perhaps a little to sensitive.

Funny thing about blacksmithing, it isn't dieing out exactly, it just became one of those luxury professions much like candle-making or upholstery. That is, no-one is needed to do those things anymore as a major part of society, but rich people will still pay for it for that genuine aspect. So don't give up if you really want to do it, just be aware that it's going to be a very hard job to get into.

Blacksmith specifically you may struggle a little.

But as someone able to work metal your employment options are pretty limitless.

#Edit, spellung, me feil at it...
