Did you love FF9?

I seriously think that FF9 was best fantasy story in the series and I base that solely on the idea that FF9 felt like a fantasy story. It was like playing a children's storybook that had come to life via your Playstation. It wasn't so full of melodrama that it was bursting between the seams and every location and character you came across actually felt alien while still being familiar.

I now wonder why I ever listened to them because I played FF9 from beginning to end and loved it. I wouldn't call it my favorite Final Fantasy, but I would definitely put it in my top 5.

Me loving Final Fantasy IX is an understatement. It's my most favorite game, by far. Out of the FF games, VI comes in a close second and VII comes in third for me.

Loved? No, i never got past the second disk because i got bored. However it was a good game, i preferred 8. But really anyone who likes 8 dislikes 9 and vice versa

I haven't come across any of these rabid fans you mention. As far as I've seen, FF9 is one of the more beloved games of the series. FF6, 7 and 9 are the ones that people have cited as their favourites in my experience.

4 and 9 are tied for my favorite, with 6 just barely behind them. From what I've seen, many who have played all the FF games hold 9 in high regard, even if it isn't their personal favorite. Most everyone I know personally either had no opinion on it, or says it sucks(or sucks compared to 7/10/whichever) without even playing it.

I'm sure those who have played it and don't like it have their reasons, but I've never heard them, and I'd be interested in hearing them.

I had the same thing happen with me. I had my cousin constantly telling me he hated the game and it was garbage and I shouldn't "waste my time". However after playing the game it was my favorite in the series since VI. It feels like a throwback to the old SNES Final Fantasy games which I always loved.

And Vivi is awesome.

FF7 is my "favourite" because it was my first FF game. However, looking at it objectively, FF9 and 7 are tied for my favourite.

It's not my favourite but it's nonetheless an excellent game. Probably my third favourite behind VII and IV.
