Well, im just wondering, does the ability to change difficulty in games make a difference to you?
And what difficulty do you usually start a newly bought game on?
And what difficulty do you play your top 3 games on?

It doesnt make a difference to me.
I usually start a game on the second to last difficulty available. So usually just regular hard.
I play Fallout 3 on hard on my main character
I play HALO ODST on heroic
And I play DA:O on normal difficulty

I usually play games on the hardest difficulty if they have 3 difficulty settings and the second hardest if they have 4, and then I move on to the hardest. I wish I could change difficulty midway through in dead space, though, because it's too hard to be fun and I don't want to restart the game.

That is a game that you want to replay, so do it. Seriously, ive finished that game on all difficulties just for the fun of it.

Depends. If it's a relatively short game that I wouldn't mind replaying (best example being the Devil May Cry games), then I appreciate having different difficulty settings. This is often action or fighting games.

I find I rarely if ever use difficulty settings in RPGs, even the ones I replay.

I usually play on the easiest setting, and if it's worth it I'll play it on the harder levels. I play on the easiest so I can blow through a game and learn it quicker though, so when I play the harder difficulties it's easier to navigate.

The one game where I would like the choice, it doens;t give it.
damn Demon's Souls.....
In the end I guess it is sorta nice, but in games with story and such it doesn't really matter.

It really depends on what type of combat the game has. If its shooter based, I tend to play on the hardest difficulty, other then that, it varies by game and experience with that game.

I play my games on normal difficulty, then I move up to hard and very hard (If the game has this feature.) later.

I do regular, but in the case of KH2, I went with hard so I could get the secret ending. Wasn't a fun experience, it damn well broke my nerves a few times, but I got there. It reminded me why difficulty settings are important.

To me they only make a difference if I really loved the story. The first play through is about enjoying the game, the second and whatever is about indulging in the story.

For me it depends on the game, with RTSs it depends on the AI. I had to start on easy in 'Frozen throne' and 'age of empires 3'. I went up to expert on aoe3 but i still play frozen throne on easy >__<.

Normal if it's a new IP or if I don't play games like it very often, such as in Darksiders which I started the other day. The combat and chaining together attacks is sort of like God of War, but I haven't played them in a while so hard would have destroyed me very fast. Hard/hardest difficulty if I've sunk a lot of time into games like it, especially if it's an RPG. Fallout 3 I play on Very Hard from beginning to end, makes it slightly difficult at the start when raiders have assault rifles and you can only afford 10 pistol rounds, but it feels like more of an achievement when you take down an encampment of enemies. Persona 3 on normal to start with as that's all it has, and than moved onto hard when P3:FES was released. I'll be damned if I'm going to play easy where it gives you 10 continues. It's downright embarassing using a continue in an RPG.

Usually normal. Sometimes easy, sometimes hard depending on my familiarity and skill with the game. I don't like games that are too hard to the point of being unfair. I don't get a sense of "challenge" or "satisfaction" from beating them. I just turn them off. Don't get me wrong, I love a point in the game that is incredibly difficult - but once it starts getting unfair and unbalanced away from my character - I just turn the fucker off.

I'll just start any game on the medium setting, then if it's too easy I'll start over on the hardest setting.

I don't usually bother with the difficulty of my games. I'll mostly have the difficulty set on normal or less depending on how i want to play the game.

Only when i get bored do i go back and try playing some of my games on Hard.

I start with normal most of the time to get a feel for the game mechanics and enjoy the game, then later I may do a hard run if I really liked the game.
