Since it looks like I'll be without a working PS3 for the foreseeable future, I dragged the old monolith out of retirement to hold me over until I scrounge up enough repair/replacement money.

I've got a few essentials [small](Psychonauts, Silent Hill 2, GoW II, Guitar Hero 2, MGS2 & 3, Beyond Good & Evil, Kingdom Hearts 2, Killer 7, Prince of Persia SoT, etc)[/small] at the ready, but I also thought that this could be a good opportunity to go back and pick up some classics I might have (read: probably) missed over the last 10 years or so.

So hit me with your best PS2 picks, escapists. No title is too obscure, since I work at a pretty well-stocked Gamestop. I'm especially more open to trying RPGs than I was ten years ago, so start waving the flag for your favorites.

Shadow of the Colossus. It's the definition of PS2 classic!

Uhm, what else... Star Ocean 3 was good and took up a good month of my time...

Also, if you haven't played it yet, get into the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time series. Lovely games...

Dark Cloud. 'Twas a fun, very Japanese (but not turn based), simple RPG. Sometimes repetitive, but fun nonetheless.

unless you've played it, i say go with the Kingdom Hearts series. IMOH: It's got a great story to it.

RPGs:

Star Ocean 3
Xenosaga series (if you're from US, only the second game made it to Europe, which is the black sheep)

Other:

Killer7
Project Zero series
Disgaea series

Star wars battlefront 2. Not necesarrily a classic, but a great game, and very different to other genres.

Shadow of the Colossus. But I'm sure everyone else on this thread has already suggested that.

You should also pick up Shadow of Rome. The combat is really good, and the stealth sections are fairly good as well. I've only just started but the story seems good as well so far, but a little cheesy when it comes to dialogue.

There you go 3 Shadow of the Colossus recommendations in the span of 2 minutes. You can't go wrong.
Excellent choice guys, and to put your minds at rest, I have totally played Shadow of the Colossus. And Beyond Good and Evil, another a timeless classic.

Ico is the one game that my store never has. I'll have to track it down somehow.

Keep 'em coming!

Final Fantasy X & XII
Timesplitters: Future Perfect (though the others are good too)
Starwars Battlefront: 2

You mentioned GoW2, do you have the first one?

also: METAL GEAR SOLID 3!! That one was my favourite of the MGS series. <3 <3

I had completely forgotten of Dark Cloud. Thank you, I may just end up playing it again eventually. :D

I suggest not picking up Ico under any circumstances. This isn't at all even a little tiny miniscule bit that I want to get a copy for myself (OK, maybe a little bit).

As a general rule, anything Star Wars games post-Episode 1 (when Star Wars games took off again) is shit. That said, one exception to this rule is Battlefront. Whether a fun multiplayer competitive space shooter, a fast-paced third person shooter, or a Smash Brothers-esque free-for-all as Jedi and Sith, the fun to be had never stops. Disregard all this if you have no friends, of course.

Are we suggesting PS1 games as well?

Gladius - it's fun, the story is not to terribad and the combat is cool
