A disabled gamer recently found out that he couldn't play Dead Space 2 because it didn't allow for remapping of keys. He is petitioning EA so he can play the game. If you believe that this is a worthy cause I hope you'll take a little time out of you day to sign it.

Well, good luck to whomever this applies to and their petition, but I don't see this having much of an impact. The world cannot possibly pander to every disability and preference of every individual person in the world.

Cold! Granted you're right, technically, but in this instance, key remapping can't be a hard function to make available on games, plus many people would appreciate the functionality.

Never played a game that would have been better if the buttons weren't so ludicrously placed? Watch some AVGN, Rolfe's got some great examples littered through the series.

You seen that guy play FPS multiplayer? It is amazing. I had to sign it. Disabled gamers unite! On second thought, I'll just stick to RPGs that I know I can play.

It certainly doesn't harm anyone though if i were him i'd just petition for an ergonomically designed unique controller for his needs.

I can definitely see where this is needed, from personal preference and so on. Heck, I see this every now and again on console games.

Key remapping is one of those things that should be pretty much standard in games, as it is in the PC scene. I've played SNES games that included key remapping, so it's not exactly some strange technology unknown to consoles. They just don't bother doing it most of the time.

Matter-of-fact... the biggest reason why I was lukewarm on the Bulletstorm demo is because they mapped the aiming and fire keys to the shoulder buttons instead of the triggers like a proper game... and there didn't seem to be any option to set that up properly.

They didnt for me... were you on the PS3?

OT: Like you said, shouldn't this be a standard in every game?

Yeah, PS3. Might check out the 360 demo now.

And having key remapping being standard would help prevent some of the crappy control schemes that come down the pike. Saints Row had a really awful driving control system for any mission that required you to fire a gun... they added a cruise control in the second game to alleviate the problem, but allowing a bit of key remapping would have let gamers figure out a system that they liked.
