What i mean by this is a series of game (not cod) that you continue to buy in the hopes that this time they haven't screwed it up. For example I buy the DBZ games in the hope that they finally got it right and each time I am a little disappointed since you can see all these amazing elements in each game but then the next game rolls out and all the good stuff is gone to be replaced by button mashy stuff. Hero mode for example had all this potential but then they messed it up by scaling fights so no matter how powerful you supposedly got you could still be pounded into the ground by a saiberman. Also they haven't got the transformations right for some time now.

Let's see...

Heroes of Might and Magic. That game has gone into a downward spiral after HoMM3. HoMM4 was just wierd (and not in a good way), HoMM5 was kinda crappy (likely due to an inexperienced studio and low budget) and while HoMM6 does show signs of improvement, I refuse to buy it due to Ubisoft's DRM.

I was a bit worried about Total War since Empire was a mess and Napoleon outright sucked (at least to me), but Shogun 2 got them back on track.

Bioware's single-player RPGs have been on the decline lately, going from "They can do no wrong!" to "A few mistakes in an otherwise good game" (Mass Effect 2) to "WTF is this shit?" (Dragon Age 2). Needless to say, I'm more than a little concerned about Mass Effect 3 and even more about Dragon Age 3. And I have no idea what to think about the whole Command & Conquer thing...

Dawn of War is also worrying me. It started as an amazing RTS, had one solid expansion (Winter Assault) followed by a big stand-alone expansion which will be forever remembered as one of the best RTS games ever (Dark Crusade). Then they followed it up by a terribly crappy Dark Crusade ripoff (Soulstorm). The sequel, while not terrible, just lacks the sense of scale and scope of the original, focusing on tiny squads and an overabundance of RPG elements. I hope they get back on track for DoW3...

World of Warcraft is just ridiculous by this point. While I don't play it anymore, I do keep track of what's going on in there and from what I can see, the game is becoming a parody of itself. I'm sure this is fine with a lot of people, but having grown up with the Warcraft games, it just rubs me the wrong way to see that universe treated like this.

I don't know so much about Mass Effect 2 which I felt was a huge improvement overall from the original but I will agree on DA2 which was almost depressing in how limited it was compared to so many other games they make.

I am honestly worried about ME3 now with EA deciding to mess around with the formula and shoveling multiplayer into everything even games as straightforwardly single player as Mass Effect.

The Need for Speed series. I don't buy the games anymore but I still follow them closely. I guess I'm just holding on to some long lost hope that they can finally make good games again when that's clearly not the case. I want them to, and more recently they have had little hints of redeeming qualities, but it is always drowned in the overwhelming crap of the rest of the game.

Call of Duty. Oh I'm gonna regret saying that aren't I?
Metal Gear Francise. Now that the dev team are pretty much making Bayonetta, with Raiden as the skin, another game with no stealth, yeah cause MGS4 had stealth, welp I hope I'm wrong about Metal Gear Raiden or whatever its called.

I've been trying to tell myself that I will not buy another video game until I get through the backlog I currently have (and believe me, there's a lot of backlog I need to get around to), and yet...

*holds up preorder receipts for SSX and Twisted Metal*

Has anyone else actually played the DBZ games? where you all as disappointed as me by the amount of potential it showed then just didn't do anything about.

Final Fantasy. Honestly, I even liked 12, but ever since that they've just been digging their own grave. Although I probably won't stop buying the games. *sigh*

Mass Effect. I'm going to get #3 even though it's probably going to turn out to be a horribly written Gears of War clone. Because I want to see how it ends that much.

While making a clear distinction between being disappointing and being bad; Saints Row The Third. Great in it's own right, but a little disappointing after Saints Row 2. And I know what you mean about the Dragonball games, but they're still a good rental.

Mass Effect.
I can't stand protagonist, yet i find his followers very interesting.
Also : big, detailed world, plausible alien species, addictive storyline.
If only there would be some way to play it without The Shep... :|

I don't get it. Why are you mentioning DA2 when it's not even part of the ME Series?

And the cooperative portion of ME3 is an alternate way to complete ME3, not just a tacked on MP mode. And considering that EA doesn't develop either Mass Effect or Dragon Age games, I don't think you really need to worry about EA shoveling anything anywhere.

That said, I think DA2 was a learning experience for both Bioware and EA.

Final Fantasy, as stated above.

But more obscurely, and even more brutally: the Geo-Political Simulator / Mission Président / Rulers of Nations series.
These games have a great premise. They are, ultimately, the only realistic, non-wargame political simulations out there. However, each and every iteration has been a buggy mess of questionable design decisions, things breaking apart at every corner, unsteady graphics and so forth. Yet, I keep buying their yearly (!) iterations, even though they are only very slowly getting better...

Grand Theft Auto.

I've never LOVED any of the games, and I haven't liked a game since Vice City. But I keep buying them, I keep quickly abandoning them, and I keep looking forward to the next one.

The Assassin's Creed series. The second game was the most mindblowing fucking thing I have ever played (considering I have watched a full playthrough of the game like a year before I even got to play it because I thought I would just never do it, but then I got a new PC), and then Brotherhood came along and yes, it was fun and everything, but it wasn't AS GOOD. Then my hopes went up with Revelations, only to come right back down again because it was FINE (I guess) but it wasn't that good, let alone the Assassin's Creed II kind of good.
