I'm sure there's been a thousand of these posts up throughout the years, but new games are released, preferences change, etc etc. Anyhow, I'd like to ask what games you've played recently that you enjoyed the most. Keep in mind that I'm not simply asking you to state your favorite - I'd like to hear your justifications.

Personally, my favorite game of all time is Garry's Mod, simply because you make it the game you want it to be, you can build literally anything you want, and the community is constantly changing and adding mods to change the game further. Wiremod lets you automate everything you build. Spacemod and Life Support are pretty self-explanatory. And to top it off, it's only $10 (so long as you already have HL:2). I've played it far more than games that cost five times that, so in my books, that's major points.

That's pretty much all I've got to say. I'd like to hear yours though.

Ratchet and Clank 3: It accumulates everything from the first 2 games and makes an adventure game where every character hits thier stride and where all the weapons are effective aswell as fun to use.

Okami: Beautiful art design, fun-loving characters, an engaging story and most of all, creative gameplay.

Shadow of the Colossus: What to say, what to say?

There's so much to praise in that game. The way it brilliantly withholds music when exploring the world and saving it for boss battles, the breathtaking design on everything, the thrilling, epic and clever boss-battles, the interesting and heartbreaking story, the fact that it's a PS2 exclusive (PS2 IS THE BEST CONSOLE EVER AFTER ALL!), the beautiful score.

It's quality is indescribable. You need to play it to understand.

Best. Fucking. Game. Ever.

TimeSplitters 2 The best FPS ever made. It was just pure fun witj some friends.

Mafia Maybe it doesn't have the best story, but it tells it in the greatest way.

Price Of Persia SoT Hate to agree with Yathzee, but I totally do. Great platforming.

Portal Just pure singleplayer fun.

Fallout 3: There's something about the atmosphere and the world that just amazes me every time I play. Looking out from a high point across the desolate wasteland, finding pockets of civilization, and even those neat little tableau moments that tell a story without needing any words at all. It's poetry in motion.

The Mass Effect Series: The plot and writing are both just superb, the gameplay is fun, and the ability to really make your character your own is almost unmatched by any other game.

Assassin's Creed 2: Venice is magical.

Deadly Premonition

Deadly Premonition No really, I like it better than (your favourite game). This may be better than PoP:SoT, so says Mr. Stewart.

This is not meant to convince you but to let you know where I'm coming from also watching gameplay footage doesn't hurt too: http://www.giantbomb.com/endurance-run-deadly-premonition-part-br-01/17-2280/

The Legend of Zelda games have always been a big favorite for me, good puzzle solving, also free enviroment to explore. Only downiside is that the game often gets pretty simple through half of the game. Pretty much the same is for the StarFox games.

For all time greatest and most played games (for me) would be different Mario and Pokemon games. These two were the foundation for me entering the gaming world and there's no denying that the Pokemon RPG:s (red, blue, silver, ruby etc) are some of the best games ever and I even recently downloaded a gameboy emulator just to play through one of these games once again.

On the PC it's without a doubt Warcraft III the Frozen Throne, since I am not a PC gamer this is one of the only games I've really played and explored to the core in my time of gaming.

I actually liked all of those things. I only completely followed the story the second time around, but it held my interest.

You are entitled to your opinion so that's fine, but I have to ask you, how could you like the combat?

It was like, wait for it, wait for it, counter.

Way of the Samurai series. In my opinion, it's the best Samurai type game out there.

Wipeout HD: I'm not ususally a big fan of racing games, but this is one of those games I can just keep coming back to. The fusion of speed, sound and visuals, especially during Zone races, is just incredibly addictive
Fallout 3: Despite what other people might say or think about F3, I love it to pieces. While it doesn't feature the best combat or story, it makes up for it with a giant, fascinating world to explore and discover.
Final Fantasy X: The first I ever played, and remains in my eyes the pinnacle of the series. One of my favourite stories in all the FF games, and the turn-based combat has been refined to near-perfection, not to mention the beautiful soundtrack and the awe-inspiring fully-rendered cutscenes.
Rayman (first): Back before the stupid Rabbid things, Rayman was a platformer children, and a good one. Sometimes, you just can't beat a good ol' fashioned side-scroller, and the cartoony art-style means the game has never, ever looked old or outdated. Platforming at its finest.
Spyro: Specifically, any game before the PS2. The Spyro games represent my first real foray into the world of videogames; I took one look at Spyro 1 at a friends place, and knew I had to have a Playstation, just so I could have that. Well designed levels, catchy tunes and cute graphics are what the Spyro games mean to me, things that the subsequent titles on later consoles completely failed in all respects to capture.

(edited to add more detail)

Wow, I remember playing that on my old IBM brick, one of my first computers. But I agree - it's still one of the best platformers I've ever played.

It's possible, if you so choose, to have a more aggressive fighting style. Plus, the counters were varied and brutal. They kept me entertained.
