I am going to give people who think Lincoln was jesus in a tophat a warning that some people may not see him the same way you do and if that angers and offends you then stay away





I have never understood why people think Lincoln was so great, he freed the slaves but not because he saw it as a injustice, in short he was not moses he once said"if I could protect the Union with out freeing a single slave I would" but now everyone acts like Lincoln stood up and said"we should not keep blacks in slavery set them free for it is wrong"what he did what he did for two reasons one it took away a good amount of the souths labour force(well the ones that could run away)and two he increased the numbers of troops he could use as meatshield(I am not joking nor being raceist they were used as a way to soften up defense), there are two reasons I made this thread 1.I would like to see why people rever Lincoln 2. I would like some more info on the subject if there is some info I don't know I would like to hear so as to shape my point of view.

It's probably the hat. Yahtzee's treated like a god and he has one, same for Lincoln. It also explains the world's love of cowboys and pirates.

Lincoln wasn't amazing, but he was a pretty intelligent guy, and a decent president.

And back in those days, everyone was a meatshield for the generals. I mean, really? Standing in a fucking line in front of the other army, who was ALSO in a line?

Basically, he was far, far better than his immediate predecessors. You've got a former Vice President who was never re-elected, somebody without the guts to try to stop Confederate secession, and James Buchanan, who allowed a huge amount of the country to split off and start fighting the United States.

Great work, Buchanan. You set your country up for a savage Civil War in which the competing sides would use rifles in the same way as muskets had been used.

I would like to thank you for posting something real*glares and just about everyone else in the thread*, and even though he was a good the president people act like he was jesus santa washington M.J. rolled up in a tortilla then deep fried and that is what I really don't get, the other thing I don't get is why everyone thinks slavery caused the civil war it was mainly the battle between people who thought the fed should rule us as a country or wither we should stay basically a group of countries kinda like the U.N.

Lincoln made the Civil War about slavery to stop England and France from officially recognizing the Confederate South as a separate nation. They were both very close to doing so. Russia was the only European nation to support the Union North.

That's why people assume the Civil War was about slavery because Lincoln made it about slavery--so that England and France wouldn't throw in with the South.

"In the presidential election of 1860, the Republican Party, led by Abraham Lincoln, had campaigned against the expansion of slavery beyond the states in which it already existed. The Republican victory in that election resulted in seven Southern states declaring their secession from the Union even before Lincoln took office on March 4, 1861. So the Civil War was not about whether we would be States or little countries because the Revolution had happened about a hundred years earlier and we'd already gotten that worked out by then.
