I've read on multiple sources that killing certain kinds of enemies doesn't yield as much chaos rating as some, like if they are especially corrupt or evil (Or constructs as I've seen in some gameplay footage).

My problem is; How do I know if a specific set of guards are more corrupt than others? I'm on level 3 (The Good Doctor) and I'm just choking everyone out and hiding bodies but in a pinch, I'd like to know that I didn't completely Chaos my entire playthrough up by alerting one jackass. I abuse Quicksave/Quickload enough as it is.

Update:
I started using the heart on guards but it's still really vague. I basically heard that one guy was extorting others, and another robbed the rich. Neither of which seemed worthy of outright murder. So I guess that's the point?

Easiest way to check how you're doing on the chaos scale is to look at your save games - it should tell you what your current chaos rating is.

OT - I know that destroying clockwork soldiers doesn't effect your chaos rating (or kill count for that matter), but can't speak to what killing others does.

The heart feeds you a random line when you use it on non-named NPCs, so a guard that your heart tells you is a child killer, I might get told gives money to a beggar. The best way to avoid high Chaos is to not kill any living person. That being said, there is some allowance in the system, so if one or two people die per mission you should still get away with low chaos.

On the first couple of missions of my high chaos run, I had to literally go into the street and start shooting people to get the high chaos (after trying a stealthy but lethal approach). So its pretty tolerant.

If you do accidentally get discovered, don't forget you have stinging bolts that can make people run off and forget about you.

You can kill guards when in a pinch without worry. Someone posted on Gamefaqs that killing over 20% of the enemies nets you high chaos. I wouldn't worry about killing the occasional guard at all. Dishonored is mainly about being creative with your powers and abilities so experiment and have fun.

I'm pretty sure that's for the first game. Unless Arkane are reusing the same or similar tolerances, that is.

There's a lot of carryovers from the 1st game, I wouldn't be surprised about Chaos levels being the same as well. I very much doubt the devs are going to force such a non-lethal playstyle on a player to get Low Chaos. As long as your main method for getting past guards isn't killing, you should be fine. That's the way I play but I've actually hardly killed anyone due to Emily's powers being able to be deployed in a rather non-lethal manner even when getting spotted and having to improvise.

I wouldn't be surprised if its a bit stricter in this one. For one, some aspects of the game have been made tougher (guards are definitely smarter, and the perception timer seems to fill much quicker).

Also they added two non-lethal weapons (Sting Bolts and Stun Mines) along with the expanded powersets giving almost(maybe all) of the powers non-lethal applications. And introduced the ability to non-lethally incapacitate people in full on combat (and with drop attacks, which you can also do in full on combat if you maneuver into it). And chloroform bottles. With the massively expanded ability to go non-lethal, even in the games "Assault" style, it seems like they would weigh killing more heavily.

Doing the mid-combat Chokeout is difficult because their buddies inevitably slice their own mates mid animation.

Throw them instead and just hit R1 to KO them with a kick thats prettymuch instant.

If you throw them into their buddy, they'll even knock them down so you can get both.

What's "R1" on the Keyboard?
