I'm talking about tabletop Dungeons and Dragons here. I wish there was a group around my area that played but that's a whole other issue.
I want to know (those of you who play) about your characters. Who do you play as your main? or your favorite one? If you don't play, what character would you make? to your knowledge of Dungeons and Dragons.
Any edition is fine it doesn't matter about stats I want to know about the characters themselves.

I play a human Cleric named 'Josef Vaan'
Brother Vaan is a worshipper of Avandra, whom spends his time travelling with his friends and aiding them with his holy healing and turning magic.
Despite being a pacifist Brother Vaan wield a full-sized Scythe, using like a staff and for situations of extreme self defense. Back when he used to be a lone pilgrim travelling and healing in Avandra's name before he met his party. He kept the scythe to intimidate potential bandits and thieves off attacking him.
He wears a light chainmail under a brown worshippers robe which is dirtied from all the wilderness travel he does.
He is slightly overweight and has a generally optimistic disposition, he tends to be very overtrusting and naíve and people have taken advantage of him in the past. While good at healing and turning, his offensive capabilities are lacking in comparison. Also he's an ale drinker, a competant one.

Like: Ale, Travelling
Dislike: Confrontation, People who breath through thier mouth.

Balasar, a Dragonborn Fighter that may or may not be just a bit too unintelligent for his own good. There is some back story to him, but I haven't had a chance to fully explore it.

Internet forums and nearby gameshops message boards are your friends.
Nice thread, keep up the good work.
I haven't seen any Game shops like that around here.... They gotta have one somewhere in this city!
Oo I seem to have stolen a bit of this thread.... Let me try and fix it.
If I had a Dnd Character he would also be a Human Cleric His Name would be Hale Wintershield
He is an Impatient and self righteous bastard but in he enjoys helping and healing :D
Dislikes obnoxious people.

I really want to get into the tabletop version of D&D instead of just video games, but I'm afraid my learning disability & memory retention problems might chase off anyone willing to teach me. Let's put it this way, I took algera 6 times & forgot the basics over summer. I can't even remember my address & phone number. What group of players would put up with me? :(

It is alot of fun when you find a group of regular players of likeminded persuasion.

My last group of friends I played with were very into the character building Roleplay aspects while I was more into the puzzle solving with some pauses for character building.
I'm a novice DM and I'm getting better I live in Hertfordshire, UK incidentally if anyone reads this and wants to start up?

Warforged Artificer multiclassed into Wizard named "Marvin"

So what do you want to know, meatbag?
Hes a sort of a dick, mostly because he thinks himself superior to organics, however this is only a facade for he was built and treated as just a dumb machine most of his life.
Right now (well just before the end of the last adventure) he held the position of Majordomo of the Ars Mechanica Department on Eastrise, a small island under the jurisdiction of The Magistrate (kind of the mage-guild in that world).
Lately he got into trouble with the magistrate because he helped a chimera escape from the lab and lost his position as Majordomo, leading to him being even more insufferable than usual.

He doesn't wear anything being a magical robot, his main weapons are daggers, lots and lots of daggers. His magic is more utility than actual damage.
His favorite pastime is reminding everyone around him how he does not need to eat, drink and breathe. Usually this leads him to doing really stupid things to prove how superior he is, like searching the bottom of a lake for a day to find the magic orb that the sorcerer dropped. It has backfired on occasion (threw trail-rations at a drake to "distract" it, it wasn't very effective).

Like: Machines, Science
Dislike: Ignorance, Waiting

PS: we play online over Skype and Teamviewer or Openrpg

My favourite ever character was an elven sorcerer... or was it wizard, I don't remember... (house rule modified 3rd ed) that I for some reason called "January". He had an exceedingly high charisma, and had taken many diplomacy, merchant and acting based skills. His spells were mostly based around enchantment and illusion. He had essentially no fighting skills, but used illusions, trickery, traps and his environment to survive. The spells alter and change self were used to great effect - entering places I wasn't meant to, posing as all sorts of dignitaries, etc. Since I was a wanted man, this was helpful.

My DM had used the age-old story device of amnesia. January could remember that he was a traveling merchant, and many people throughout the campaign told stories of "January's amazing adventures" but I never found out exactly who he was. I spent most of the campaign going town-to-town trying to prevent some sort of terrible disaster and avoid being recognised and going to jail.

This is also the campaign during which i figured out the 'mount' spell was the best spell ever. An expendable, tame horse is a great counterweight, stepping stone and trap detector.

Melbourne is big enough, I doubt there won't be a decent gameshop there.

I often prefer to play a neutral human rogue, simple background and on the adventure for cash.

My current character is a dwarven Defender named 'Ulfrik Torghild'. He used to be a Fighter out for personal glory and wealth, belonging as he does to a very poor clan, but a recent campaign which pitted him and his companions against a variety of fiends and hell-spawn has made him realise that their are bigger and more important causes to fight for than fame and reputation. He has since dedicated his life and shield in service to Clangeddin, although his travelling friends are finding it hard to adjust to his new found sobriety (in all things) and force of purpose. Clad in mithral full-plate, wielding an axe burning with holy fire and with a heavy shield that he himself embossed with the sigil of Clangeddin, he cuts a noble (if somewhat grim and surly) figure.

Likes: A good meal after coming back from a week or more on trail rations.
Dislikes: Eccentric or frivolous behavior, especially from his companions.

My most recent (I LOVE rolling characters):

Zulratha the half orc Barbarian/Oracle (Pathfinder).

His mother is a witch, living in the outskirts of a small village. She is well liked because of her ability to heal and treat diseases, but still a bit shunned because of her supernatural abilities.

How Zulratha came to be:
One day the witch came upon a wounded orc in the woods. He was under attack of a bear. Being a good witch she saved his life, and made the bear go away. The orc was close to death and saw her as a spirit rescuing him. As she healed him he saw she was simply a mortal, but he was still in awe of her powers. The orc was a shaman for a tribe of orcs travelling by. They were both taken with each other, and the shaman visited her shack often while his tribe was nearby. Not long after she was with child. Zulratha was born a year after they met.

The orcs were not peaceful, and soon their raids made the local populace gather a small army and drive them away. Zulrathas father had to leave with his tribe when Zulratha was still only a few years old. He vowed to come back if he could...

Zulratha grew up in his mothers shack. The locals were not exactly pleased by their witch having a half orc bastard child, but whenever visitors asked they were silenced by a stern look from the witch. Zulratha grew up by his mothers side. His only friend were the mothers familiar fox. He saw her mothers abilities, and even if he felt the dislike and sometimes even hatred of his mothers visitors, they never said a word to him and in time he came to pity them. His mother taught him right from wrong, and Zulratha grew up learning to help others.

When Zlratha was around 16 years of age his mother was on one of her daily walks in the forest, gathering herbs. She was late, and Zulratha started to worry. He walked into the forest to look for her. Zulratha came upon his mother in the forest, she was on the ground, half naked with a big green beast over her. Zulrathas rage made him see red and he charged the monster beating it savagely.

His mother screamed in horror, and tried to pull him away. When the red mist disappeared his rage left Zulratha in shock as his mother told him he had almost killed his own father. It turned out Zulrathas father had come into enough power in his tribe to set out on his own, and had found his way back. As his father lay dying he announced his pride over having such a strong son, so protective of his dear mother. Zulrathas shame and horror made him go blind, all the while his mother used all of her abilities to save the aging orcs life.

Zulrathas father survived, but Zulratha remained blind. Being a shaman, Zulrathas father combined his knowledge and powers with Zulrathas mother and through meditation and ritual tatoos Zulrathas vision slowly returned. It did not go further than 30 feet, outside of that were only fog and clouds for Zulrathas eyes.

When he was fit enough to travel on his own, Zulratha decided to leave his parents. The events that had transpired were still to close to the heart to talk about, and he also knew his parents had a lot of cathcing up to do. Zulratha decided to travel for a while, so that when he again met his father he could share a tale or two of his own...

Man I love D&D/Pathfinder.

Edit: Sorry about all the "Zulrathas father mother" stuff, I couldnt remember their names :<

I have two Characters I'm currently playing but to understand them you have to understand their god as they are both paladins.

Both of my characters are paladins of Bronn the god of Mercenarys, sarcasm and just all around being a sarcastic asshole. He is Lawful Evil. Paladins of Bronn do mercenary work because of what Bronn represents. In a way they are like the French Foreign Legion, no questions asked upon joining and they grant you amnesty from all past crimes. (I made the god up after one of my other characters I don't use anymore got stripped of his powers. Apparently Kord doesn't like it when you scalp halflings you tripped and fell on while they were robbing you. What a whiny little *****.)

One is Torrhen Umberthane, a Goliath Paladin of Bronn. The back story behind Torrhen is he was out on a mission with a small group of other paladins when they were ambushed. It turns out that the one who ambushed them was none other than one of his fellow paladins who had begun to hear the voice of Atris the god of doom and winter and had turned from Bronn. The defector Beric took the Ax of Rending that all of the Grandmasters carried from the dead body of the squad leader and left Torrhen for dead. Now Torrhen is on a quest to retrieve the ax and kill the oath-breaker Beric.

Likes: Axes, heavy armor, and reading cheesy romance novels
Dislikes: Halflings, Oath-breakers, and mages

My other character is known only as The Grim. He is a Half-Orc Paladin of Bronn who was brought up in a temple of Bahamut. However all the priests treated him poorly and so one day the Orc in him took over and he slaughtered the entire temple with the same ax he had seen used to behead his mother for the crime of mixing blood with an Orc. He when an joined the Paladins of Bronn seeking asylum for his murderous deeds knowing that they would protect him. To this day he carries the ac which is called The Smilemaker because in battle The Grim has a habit of cutting just above the neck, hitting them in the mouth taking their head part of the way off creating what is called The Grim's Smile.

Likes: Killing shit, his sideburns
Dislikes: Halflings, followers of Bahamut, and fizzy drinks, they make his nose itch.

My favorite character is called Leeroy Lovegood Paladin of the love god
extremely flirtatious, charming and clever. Orphaned by plague, raised
by monks. Set out after receiving training and blessings as a paladin,
chasing adventure but found chasing skirts infinitely more entertaining.

Human Storm Sorcerer

Very neutral; will probably think whatever drama is going on is notable as a way to get information, but won't get involved.
Prefers intimadation or lying over diplomacy.
Usually carries a staff, even though he attacks with a dagger.
Likes fighting things, preferably with lightning.
Fullfills two roles: Striker and Controller.
Takes up the second-in-command position in most adventures.

Alex "Heroman" Nuva
Half-Elf Elated Ardent

Quintessential non-thief main protaganist of most JRPGs games.
Good but not lawful or chaotic, tries hard to make everyone as happy as possible in any situation.
Prefers diplomacy or intimidation over lying
Wields a big sword that glows like the sun.
Charismatic but loses his cool under pressure.
Has limit-break type of attacks, has a trance state of being.
Fullfills three roles: Leader, Striker and Defender.
Takes charge in most adventures.

Why is it always DnD? What about L5R? WoD? CoC??

I'm lucky that a friend of mine started a gaming club at my college. We play P&P, cards, miniatures, board games, and more. Right now I'm playing both L5R and WoD:DA simultaneously, but I've thought about picking up DnD as well. If so, I'd be a dragonborn mage.

I have a lvl 9 Kobold ranger (to fuck with my DM), a first level Halfling rogue (who was built as a challenge for me only to use the PH), a second level Half-elf ranger that I use for Pathfinder (technically not it, but it's close enough to D&D), and my proudest character was a Human subrace Viking barbarian that I got to twelfth level before the campaign ended.
