So, do blondes console gamers have more fun? I'm just going to put a console gamer's perspective on this, with the intention of PC gamers putting their points across and other console gamers agreeing with me. Obviously.
So: let's get some things straight right from the beginning. I have played PC games. I don't have a 'gaming rig' or whatever, but I've played Civilisation IV... and that's it. Which, I suppose, leads on to my problem.
Too. Much. Effort.
And that is mostly my problem, you could argue. And yes, it probably is, but the simple fact is that I don't want to spend, say, £1000 pounds and hours building a good PC for something that a console can do adequately, and most importantly well. Then, once the fun of setting up is over, there's the fact that it just isn't as user friendly as a console. There isn't the friendly dashboard with a nice interface showing my friends, what they're playing, my games, my achievements, etc. It's nice; it's clean. Now, in the few times I've used a computer to play multiplayer games, there has been a definite feeling of solitude. I rolled up with some people I didn't know in a random lobby. With the Xbox, for example, there is a feeling of community (even though MMOs that can only be found on PCs are far more 'community'-ish than the Xbox) and connection at all times with the whole guide system. Say I was playing Halo 3. One of my friends could log on, decide to play Modern Warfare 2, invite me to join his party, and in say less than a minute we would be playing together.
Sadly, I find that using a PC is nowhere near this user-friendly. There is a lot of work - the initial setup, keeping it updated, drivers, installing, private servers, and the whole point of this arguement? It's just too much. Yes, maybe in the end there are more rewards, but I just think it seems like too much effort for it to be fun. Why do that when I can do nearly the same on a console?
TL; DR GUYZ - YOUR CUE!
This post isn't just about hating on PCs. It's about me trying to find out why PCs are better than consoles as many would have me believe. So, if you're rooted on the side of computers: what are the overall benefits of a PC, how hard is it to keep it running, and most importantly: why is it fun?
Thanks for reading (unless you are one of the aforementioned TL; DR guyz, in which case, you may leave quietly) and I hope your responses can set me straight. Because I just don't see the appeal.
