Do I even need to watch movies anymore?

Specifically, the upcoming Marvel movie 'verse and the new Star Wars. With all the teasers, trailers, leaks, screengrabs, insider information and speculation I get the feeling I could pretty much cut together Age of Ultron right now. And have a pretty good shot at the next Avengers.
I dunno, am I being a downer? It's just getting a little tiresome working to avoid all the news so I can actually watch an action sequence that I haven't already seen.
What do you think?

You could just not watch the stuff?

I haven't seen any of this stuff, and it's not like I'm really really trying to either.

Just install Flash Block on your browser, it'll stop any auto-playing videos, so nothing can surprise you

Must be you. I've got no idea what movies are supposed to be coming out. OK, I lied, I've got a very vague idea - there is Avengers 2...at some point. Umm, and the Warcraft movie. And the new Star Wars. That's pretty much everything I know is going to be out. I don't even know when or pretty much anything aside from the names. Oh, and there is that "Age of Ultron" you mentioned. I don't even know what that is, aside from being a (Marvel?) movie - first I heard of it, it was last month and that was just the name.

I don't find it takes any effort to avoid the news, myself. I'm not even sure what news these are. Seems to me it's more effort to follow the news than "avoid them".

No. It's time to gouge out your eyes with ice cream scoopers now.

Alternatively, what you could do is... not look. Do you know how I avoided looking at all the Mass Effect 4, Doctor Who spoilers, next ASOIAF previews and so on?

I just didn't click on those tabs.

If you are finding out too much about things, then perhaps you should stop searching so hard?

"Avengers 2: Age of Ultron".

Well, at least you were honest about "I've got no idea what movies are supposed to be coming out". :p

There you go. I assumed they were two different movies, because of what OP said

I get the feeling I could pretty much cut together Age of Ultron right now. And have a pretty good shot at the next Avengers.
I took that as "Age of Ultron is out, in addition, the next Avengers is out".

Now I know approximately twice as much about Age of Ultron than I did yesterday, and infinitely more than about a month ago.

i don't watch trailers for movies I want to see so that things aren't spoiled and I can see a movie without being pre influenced by trailers that only show the best parts of a film.. same goes for games.. I try not to watch any trailers so that I can judge a game better.

Ya the spoilers in promo material are getting quite radical, which is why I avoid them at all costs if I intend to watch a movie.

If your point is "they give too much stuff away before the film is released". then I would say yes. That's different than "should I bother to watch these films". Whether or not you want to watch them will always be up to you, but do you honestly know the storyline to Avengers 2 or Star Wars 7? I mean, in Avengers 2 we know that Vision will be in it, but haven't even seen him yet. So while it feels like a lot has been released already, it really hasn't. Also, Marvel do that thing where they include scenes in the trailer that are different in the actual film.

I don't follow leaks and I very rarely watch trailers. It's a choice and you can always set up methods of blocking obtrusive spoilers. The only thing you can't filter are friends spoiling it for you because they're dicks but you can definitely get yourself out of the news/hype cycle for productions so you can enter the theater a blank slate. That's my preferred way watching them.

So please keep going to see movies. I need a job. ;o

Similarly, I'm only vaguely aware of some things I've deliberately looked for, like I know some cursory, rumoured information about Star Wars Episode VII: SPACE HAAAAAAAND.

There's probably more movies out there I might even be interested in, but I don't know. What I do know is how easy it is to not get information by simply not seeking it out.

I love to look at trailers and promotional material. So far I've seen about 2.5 minutes of rapidly cut footage for Age of Ultron, from what will likely be 2.5 hours of movie.

I think I'll be fine.

Yeah, like others have said, just don't watch stuff. It's not really an effort to avoid trailers and interviews and stuff. I don't make any effort to avoid the information and I don't see any of it! xD

It's really simple!

Having worked in a movie theater, I can say I've developed a tolerance for "knowing too much" about a movie. When you're an usher, for example, you routinely have to enter theaters playing movies you've not seen yet and "ruin" the experience. However I found that just because you see bits and pieces of something, it doesn't equate to experiencing the whole thing in a sitting. To me if there's movies I want to see, aside from marking out at certain trailers, everything associated with them is filtered as background noise and ignored until I've seen the movie.
So my view is nothing can ruin a movie for me, not even spoilers because nothing equates to watching the final product myself.

Mass Effect 3 had a massive controversy, it was all anyone talked about after its release. Both Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 were not controversial but they were massively popular. I begun playing Mass Effect 1 at about the time that Mass Effect 3 had faded into a distant memory. All i knew going into the series was that ME1 has a sex scene that pissed off a bunch of whiny, no life, religious prudes, and that the ending of ME3 was supposed to be worse than AIDS and cancer combined.
If i can avoid spoilers from one of the most popular, and most controversial trilogies in gaming, without even trying, then I'm sure you can do more to avoid these movies. I'm going to have to mirror the sentiments of others in this thread, with the exception of douche bags who love to spoil everything, there really isn't any problem. Don't watch the trailers, trailers are designed to get people to buy tickets, they don't care if they ruin the story. Same with all this other linked information, just don't read the damn stuff, or watch it.
