do we need a sequel to avatar

if u have not heard the news, James Cameron has annouced he will be making an avatar sequel. The question is: Can the story go anywhere from here? The story of avatar was decent and it seemed final at the end. I can't possibly think of a good sequel to the movie with a good story. So when he makes the sequel will it be good? Bad? And where the hell is the story suppost to go from here? the planet getting a tumor or getting hit by an astroid?

What the story would be in the sequel I don't know, but I kinda agree with Mr. Cameron on the idea of one. I mean he spent how many millions of dollars making those CG effects, it'd be a waste to see them used for only one movie and then discarded.

James Cameron says he already knew where he'd take the story in a 2nd and 3rd film if Avatar was sucessful enough, if this is true then I really don't see a problem.
It only bugs me when sequels are made for no other reason that to make money and I don't think James Cameron is too worried about that.
What worries me is who has the rights to make more, if Cameron decides he doesn't want to make more, does the studio have the power to make one without him?
