Or do you dive straight into multiplayer?

Me personally I like to get a feel for the game first and give other people the common courtesy of not being a complete noob for the multiplayer

I always muck around single player quite a bit before heading online. Fighting AI in games tends to be much more forgiving when learning a game's mechanics before you head for multiplayer.

If a game has single player and multiplayer then I do the single player campaign first the before I even touch the multiplayer.

Always campaign first. Always.

If the campaign doesn't get me invested enough then I couldn't give a shit about the multiplayer, even if the multiplayer is good. That just tells me that the people who made it didn't get their priorities right.

I read a piece in OXM just before the release of MW2 where it said the Infinity Ward estimated over half the people who bought the original MW never touched the campaign and only ever went on the multiplayer. That makes me genuinely sad. Especially because MW actually had one of thye best campaigns I've played in an FPS.

It kinda depends.

The first thing I did in Dead Space, AC:B and Halo: Reach was jump into the multiplayer because they looked like tons of fun. But most of my games I head straight for the campaign.

Campaign first always. It gives me time to understand how the game works and gives me tactics to use before I enter multiplayer.

Campaign first, so I'm not THAT guy[footnote]That guy that sucks, ask about everything, even the basics of the game, THAT guy[/footnote]. Also I hate to drag my team down so what ever I can do to not do awful the first hour online I will do.

TF2 is the only multiplayer I've done in months. Before that, it was just Assassin's Creed: Brotherood and TF2. Before that, it was no multiplayer at all. So...

I'm not that big on multiplayer anyway but the one game I jumped straight into multiplayer with was Battlefield Bad Company 2. I didn't really like the campaign anyway and I, like a lot of people, bought it specifically for the multiplayer.

I rarely mess with the multiplayer unless it's spilt screen like Black Ops or Portal 2.

I do prefer to do the campaign first.

I always do single player first. I am much more interested in the story that the developers created.
And it gives me a tutorial on how to play.
There are always exceptions, like when i play older games on LAN with friends i never bother with campaign if it has it.

I always play the single player first, then try out the multiplayer. I don't know why now that I think about it. Habit I guess.
