Hmm, nah. I tend to find myself playing male characters the majority of the time if there's a character creator, but I'm also fine playing a game as a female if it features such as a protagonist (such as Tomb Raider). I did want to try a second playthrough of the Mass Effect trilogy as a female, but unfortunately the voice actress is cringe-worthy, so that didn't happen. But eh.

Edit: Also, OP, you may want to put down a reason for why you don't like to play as female characters, lest people get a wrong impression.

My psychic powers are telling me that this may end poorly...

Well anyway, over the last few years I've had a tendency to make my characters female in RPGs, more or less because it feels kinda different to the norm. I mean, you're almost always a dude in games, so it's nice to have a change. I think the only recent exception was Fallout New Vegas and that character had the gay trait.

God I'm such a bloody liberal.

I used to just make an idealised version of myself but I got bored of making and playing that kinda character. If someone goes and makes a good superhero action RPG I might revert back to that though because I want fucking telekinesis, dammit.

As far as none-RPGs go, my favourite game of the year so far was Freedom Planet, which had three playable female characters but I fully expect it to be supplanted by The Blackwell Epiphany which has both you playing as both a male and a female.

So, basically, I guess I'm totally down with playing as teh wimminz. Honestly, it really doesn't affect my enjoyment that much. In the end, 'tis only skin I wear whilst murdering the fuck out of demon-terrorists most of the time.

You better find the biggest flame shield you can find, cause you're gonna need it, mate.

No, I don't. Hell, most of the time I don't even take note of a characters gender/race. When I first see the character, I may go "Hey, I'm playing as a girl. Neat." and then never mention it again. I don't see the big deal about playing as someone with opposite genitals than you.

Most of time i play PC games. Hardcore PC Shooters and such. all of them we play as badass male characters.
I dont play JRPGs and thats the genre you play as female character.

I love portal thought and in that game you play as girl.

I don't really care, there's no difference for me just as long as I like the character or the character model, it doesn't really matter.

No, just no. JRPGs are not the only genre where female player characters exits. They have the most, but far from the only. Most RPGs nowadays allow female choices, Call of Duty has even started in their multipayer. We do generally lack female PCs in action/adventure/shooters, but that's a whole other thing.

If they are a "warrior", "soldier", "knight", or "archer" then yes, I find it hard to take the game seriously (To be fair I have the same opinion of any skinny and/or effeminate man in the same role)

Otherwise I'm completely fine with them as long as they are tolerable characters in the first place.

Ew, no.

I play ladies at every opportunity.

Let me put it this way: male privilege. If you don't want to play as a female character in videogames, you can do so. If I don't want to play as a male character in videogames, I might as well change hobby.

I don't mind playing as men. Pretty much all women who play games don't, because they kind of have to a lot of the time. However, I'd like more set lady protagonists. And whenever it's a game with any kind of personalisation/customisation of character, I generally go female for my first playthrough.

All of this.

I'll usually pick a female character given the option.

Unless I'm playing something like Borderlands and I don't want to play as a Siren. I picked Mordecai for my first playthrough because sniper rifle but I used Maya first time round in the sequel. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is I will usually go for the female option depending on skill sets and whatnot.

I'm playing through ME with Ms Shepard at the moment and I love her but it would be cool to see more female characters as the main protagonist when it isn't just a custom character.

Its because majority of Real Hardcore games have badass male protagonists. most of Girly games like JRPGs have female protagonists.

Never had any issues with it myself, if I have the option to choose I tend to pick on a variety of factors: what the armor looks like, how the customization turns out, which voices or aesthetics I like better, etc etc etc.

I played female Shepard Soldier class in ME mostly because I just liked Hale's voice more than I did Meers. I played a female warrior Grey Warden in DA and a male mage Hawke in DA2, my MMO toons tend to be just whichever race and gender I like the looks of best. In Skyrim I played a male Nord battlemage and a female Redguard heavy armor wearing tank. so on and so forth.

In shooters, the options used to be more diverse in the days of Unreal tournament, and I liked the female models just fine, the large number of modern day military shooters seems to have taken a sizable chunk out of the already kind of anemic roster of women in shooting games, but they used to be more prevalent. The addition of female models in COD: Ghosts and the upcoming game are nice, depending on how they look I might use the female model over the male, I tended to switch back and forth in Titanfall depending on which gender had the better looking armor models.

What in the fuck is this? Man, I actually do understand some reasons for why someone may not want to play as a female character in certain genres, but I didn't expect such bullshit like this. Real hardcore games need badass male characters? What? Just what in the fuck?

Nah man, let's hear some valid reasons here. Because from this post, it seems like you're just digging some (non-literal) shit out of your arse and throwing it at people.

Not sure if serious...

OT:

Bro, I play girls all the fucking time. Nothing more awesome than my Skyrim Breton smashing someone's face in with a sword before blasting them into Oblivion with a fireball.

Wow, capital G Girly that's a new one.

Also I'm not sure what JRPG's you've been playing, generally the main character is male. I mean, there are plenty of female JRPG characters, and a few main characters.

... Did you start this whole thread just to whine about JRPGs cause that's kinda what it looks like.

Now that I recognize the name, I realize that he's done this in multiple threads, and he's never really given an explanation beyond them being girly because girls like them and he seems to think anime style is inherently effeminate. It seems to be a running theme with some of his posts.

Same with the not liking to play girls thing, I remember that he's brought it up before in other threads.
