Do you judge people by their spelling?

I catch myself often dismissing people entirely because of their spelling. Not the occasional typo, but the consistent mistaking of words like their/there/they're or where/were/we're, words that sound alike when spoken out loud.
If someone posts anything starting with "My aunt and uncle own a shop and when were going to there place..." I tune out, decide that this poster is an idiot and completely ignore anything they have to say, no matter how valid or thoughtful it may be.

Does anybody else have this experience?

PS: Since I'm sitting in a glass house throwing stones, let's just assume any errors in my own post are put there for satirical purposes.

I don't dismiss people for spelling, it's easy to make a mistake on the Internet and nobody is perfect. Although I do dismiss some people who are lazy who use "u" instead of "you" and stuff like that, as there's no excuse.

Unless it's being used ironically.

Only if I can tell that they're doing it on purpose, for example:
"Dont judge me cuz of my spelling! U arn't the grammer police" Or something like that.

It bugs me sometimes, but I get over it. There are more important things to worry about, like telling someone they are wrong on the internet (that was a joke.)

I try not to judge people, but it honestly gets the best of me sometimes.

Well, I can understand their/there/they're confusion. I do tend to judge by spelling though. Not in a major way, but I have dyspraxia so if I can spell it you should be able to too. It doesn't really stop me talking to someone until it reaches the "y r u so rd two me duud?" level. When it gets there I'll admit to wanting to punch them in the face.

In my experience people who speak English as a second language tend to spell better than people who speak it as a first language.

It depends. Obviously if they're dyslexic then no.
Also, I can look past general spelling mistakes like spelling "definitely" wrong. However I must say it's more grammatical 'mistakes' that tend to annoy me more. When I see "you're" written as "your" a little flame at the back of my head ignites; especially if it's on something like a Facebook group, which I hate at the best of times. Also when people are just generally being lazy and typing phonetically, then I tend to...erm...judge them, as such. That goes for spelling too - you can tell when people misspell a word just because they're being lazy.

Words like "you're" and "your", "there", "they're" and "their" etc are taught at a young age though, and I just think people should bloody learn which is which!

Depends on the type of misspelling. If it looks like a typo, or just some words are misspelt, I really don't care.

However, if I see this:

I R talkin liek a Idjut

Then I instantly think 'bit of an idiot'. I also hate text speak on forums :p

I do, but not with homophones with chat speak, like u for you, or 8 for any word that contains a syllable that sounds like 8, or the word ain't.

People have a full keyboard, and it just reeks of laziness and ignorance. If you have the full keyboard you should be able to speel out all of your words.

Mmmm... yeah, that works.

For the most part, it'll irritate the living hell out of me... but I won't judge them just because I'm a dick that way. It's a combination of things. Quick posts (by quick, I mean quickly typed), lack of absolute fluency in English, lack of secretarial word-processing skill, lack of interest in the topic at hand.

I only get pissed at the poster when they're obviously inserting spelling/grammatical mistakes to troll.

I'll personally admit that until i'm told otherwise I will assume someone is white and speaks English as a first language.

Not that it matters, because most of the white Brits I know can't spell worth a damn and the dudes from Africa I know can.

So OP: Yes I do. If they say they're from another country, then fair enough, but if not, THEY NEED TO GO TO SCHOOL AND LEARN DAMMIT

I don't for simple mistakes like accidentally putting 'your' instead of 'you're', things like that. It's typing like this...

goin 2 da shop cus wer owt ov mlk
Or this...

GoIng tO tHE shOp bEcaUse we'RE OuT of MILk
That puts a glaze on my eyes. I know I shouldn't be so supercilious, but then again, they shouldn't force me to squint if I want to understand what they're saying. Which I usually don't anyway, so I guess it all works out.

I dislike when someone frequently fail to separate words, like you said. Spelling errors don't bother me that much, but I still notify them. However it isn't that hard to ignore, if I want to read it.

To a certain extent, yes. Everybody makes the occasional typo, but a lack of punctuation, capitalization and general coherence is usually the mark of a f-cking idiot.

You're wealthy enough to have access to a computer, you're presumably educated. Have respect for the English language and your fellow posters.
