There's Nethack, Rogue, Baroque and even modern takes on the roguelike: Diablo, Dark Cloud, and Torchlight. Have you played any of these? Loved them? Never heard the term "Roguelike"?
Roguelikes are RPG games with random loot and random dungeons, older RLs were turn-based (movement and combat), and offered you permanent death and no real saving (saves were overwritten if you died or completed the dungeon).
They take wits, luck, and replay to defeat. Modern takes have been good translations of the old styles, adding real-time combat and depth to their arsenal. I was just reminded of how much I love these games, and maybe you do to?
What are your favorite roguelikes? Did you ever beat one of the old classics?
