For those of you unsure, Yaoi is Boy with Boy romance. As you can probably guess, it is related to anime and manga, so this is another one of those threads, but that's what makes the Escapist so fun!

If you're still somehow unsure what it is, here's a lovely video showcasing it. (Safe for work)

Fail poll is fail, so fuck it.

nope, its usually forced in fan fiction but if its executed well I wouldn't mind.
PS how is Yaoi related to pedophilia?
PPS also as long as its not about butt sex and more about a platonic relationship.

As a straight man, I do not.

Straight men are not allowed Yaoi no matter how much Marik Ishtar disagrees.

No, personally I think it's gross, but I don't mind it if other people like it.

Yuri is fine though :)

Generally, I prefer romances to be kept out of the story, as they tend to be painful to sit through. Sometimes they work, but rarely.

On the other hand, clingy, jealous ladies, who are a tad (or more) crazy, preferably with superpowers...I have alot of time for that, especially when the designated hero/love interest is mean to them, not the othe rway round.

Ugh, you mean terrible fanfiction that doesn't take into consideration the original character's personality and sexuality at all and is pretty much only made for said writers of fanfiction to get off on?

Nope, only rabid fangirls like yaoi.

As a straight male, not really. But it wouldn't keep me from reading/watching/playing a story which excelled in other areas I could appreciate if there was also Yaoi content.

Typically, it's crudely done fanfic but... if it's done well I like it, as with everything else.

Nope, never had an interest.

I'd say fanfics make it worse, but we got folks like CLAMP from the fan community.

Not really. If it's done well, I'll probably regard it just like any romance, which is not much. I don't even romance in game, because it just falls flat or feels forced in most situations.

As for yaoi fanfiction...it's mostly written by fangirls thus it's bad almost by definition. If it's good fanfiction (grammar, plot, descriptions, easy to read) ... I guess. I don't read much of that though.

As a typical male:

Girl with Boy = Good

Girl with Girl= AWESOME

Boy with Boy = OMG NOOOOOOO!

No, as with any anime fanfic idea, I think it's weird and creepy. Yucky!

How can you like boy with boy romance when you are straight? I mean in what sense do you like it then? Story wise, art wise? :p

If it is the main focus of whatever work it is a part of (like most fanfiction) then I detest it. If it makes a small appearance in something that I already like, I could probably tolerate it.

I'm a male boys love fan. I hate pretty much all fanfics, but I enjoy watching shows like Loveless. I find it confusing when articles say yaoi is "By girls, for girls", because I don't know many female yaoi fans. All my girl friends are more into yuri...

I approve, unequivocally.

No shame.

Being bisexual makes the appreciation easy enough. My girlfriend loves looking at it with me.
