Repetition is so boring, and if you are OK with doing the same bloody thing over and over again, then your brain is obviously half asleep while you are grinding

Edit:This first comment makes me look like a dick sort of :p

I don't mind a bit of grinding but if the game is nothing but grind then I lose interest fast (Disgaea not included).

Minecraft is %90 grind, %10 extreme satisfaction.

So no, depending on the game.

I don't mind me a bit of grind. If it's outright "do the exact same thing 10 times" grind I might have a problem with it. But my brain is easy enough to fool in that a game can have me doing basically the same thing, but with a different coat of paint (characters, reason, location, etc.), and I'm totally OK with it.

I don't care.

Hell, my favourite game series is Disgaea and you can level to 9999 in those games when maybe level 100 is needed to defeat the final boss.

I would agree with Skorpyo, that the "meaninglessness" of the Grind depends on the ultimate outcomes - and the number of possible outcomes. Grinding in World of Warcrap for example has a very limited set of outcomes, and feels more like the greek fable of pushing Sisyphus' stone. While Minecraft has a seriously unlimited amount of possible outcomes for the grind.

But for the sake of argument, I'll assume the OP was referring to "meaningless" grind, such as World of Warcrap, EVE, Star Wars Galaxies, etc.

This depends on the psychological predispositions of the individual asked.
I suspect the people who enjoy meaningless grind may be...

1)Those who find repetition comforting. A lot of people have varying degrees of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) - but not being a problem for that person, it won't be diagnosed. A friend of mine is OCD about high-scores. He has to find every little item that exists in the game world. Or has to be #1 in any number of obscure games. His little brother has Aspergers Syndrome.

2)Boring people. Because they have so little love for life and for a good challenge, that they would rather play it "safe" and do some pointless repetitive task. These people have low self-esteem.

3)Stupid people. They don't realize that it's "boring", because their brains are working overtime for the simple task they are presented with. It's "fun" to them.

If it's rewarding, fun or challenging then I don't mind it. I just sort of switch off and find it relaxing.

Some game's like Disgaea are really grindy, but it's super rewarding to make up for it x3

if its worth the reward/satisfaction of doing yes

if its straight out "you! grind these for no clear reason" then no

its mainly rpgs and mmo's, if its necessary for the player to grind out mobs to level enough to kill a boss to progress the story then yeah you might agree that if the story is intresting enough then its so worth it depends largely on what we are talking about here.

Not too much...If it's rewarding.

Like with new abilities and the like. If I'm grinding solely for stats or money...then it gets boring.

I assume you're talking about more extreme grinding in RPGs, because you could also call shooting the same dudes in the face 500 times "grind".
For me it depends on the situation, training a new skill by fighting low-level enemies can even be quite fun.
The worst kind of grind is when you encounter a boss and realize that you're 5 levels too low to beat it. It completely breaks the gameflow when you have to turn back and grind.

Another aspect is how well the grinding is hidden, if there are some nice side quests around it I don't care as much as when it's just a straightforward "kill 100 enemies to proceed", even though it's pretty much the same.

In the end it's pretty much all about how well the grinding is implemented.

It really depends on how it's presented to be and the end result. If it's just gaining a level and a little money I can't stand it.

If a game makes me grind, I delete it and go play something which isn't crap.

Only if it results in my destroying of worlds or some other associated amazing outcome. Not just to beat a boss in a game more easily, or something like that.

For me I am a total addicted loot wh*re, and so in most open world games I spend most of the time collecting stuff and money. Whilst doing that I tend to come into contact with a lot of enemies, and so the grind part takes care of itself. Its almost a side effect of doing something I really enjoy. Hell I find myself replaying old games, and when I get to a point where I know there wont be much more loot, I tend to stop playing it. Loot for me is like crystal meth and it often ends up being the reason Im playing. Oh yeah the side quests accomplish a lot of it for me too.

That said the only two games Ive played that have leveling are Borderlands and Fallout 3, so meh

I think the STALKER games do it best, in that your power as a character increases with the equipment you find and buy. That means the game rewards exploration, and if you really go looking you can have a very powerful character early in the game. If you enjoy searching for secret stashes and things its great - though there is the grind element of needing to shoot NPC's to get the co-ordinates of the stashes, and sometimes of doing side quests so that you get in trader's good books and so, cheaper prices. I think it makes the grind less obvious though.
