i would like to to know whether you fellow escapists like to pre-order games or buy games on launch day or even within the same week of launch ?
personally i have never pre-ordered a game ever. because buying a video game is a like an investment for me. if i dont know that i am investing my money in something that am not sure its going to be good or not i dont do it.
i never go by marketing hype ever. so no pre-order or launch day purchases for me.
a lot of people pre-order games or buy it launch day because of some free dlc they might get later on or some extra stuff thats included in the game box for people who pre-order.
also a lot of people fall for marketing hype which these big franchises are expert in creating.
also since am a cheapskate i like to wait for games to drop to a fraction of the launch price a few months later rather than forking out $50 for new games on launch day.
s
which means even though am really looking forward to AC3 , MOH WF, RE6, BO2, NFS i will get them all when they become cheap with all dlc included !!!
so guys let us know whether you buy games day 1 or pre-order for bonuses and offers or like me you wait it out for price drop and GOTY editions ?

I occasionally pre-order, only for games that I know I will buy anyway, and generally only a few weeks (or days even) before release.

Mostly I will wait for prices to drop as well, or for the inevitable bugfixes in case of Bethesda or Paradox games.

I usually wait until a game is cheaper, unless I'm really looking forward to it. Then I'll buy it day one. I don't pre-order games. The only time I have pre-ordered a game, the shop closed and I lost my deposit. So I don't think I'll be doing that again.

I preordered Dishonored and ACIII because preordering gives me double reward points at the store that I preordered; I'm not all that concerned about limited editions (even though the Dishonored tarot cards are BITCHIN', and I very much like the limited edition tin case for Bioshock), but it's a nice incentive.

Normally I'd wait, I haven't bought day-1 since...well, ever; but I'd saved up, so...why not?

I pre-order since its easier to pay 10 or 20 dollars a week for however long it takes, than to pay all at once. And I only ever preorder games from franchises I enjoy, that way Im usually certain I'll enjoy them, and to date i havent been proven wrong

I wait several months until they go for cheap and several reviews have been released.
I am cheap, don't judge.

For the stuff I know I'm gonna buy (DA3, Aliens: Colonial Marines and Tekken Tag 2) I pre-order because I'm a greedy little monkey.

The rest of it, usually a day 14 purchase.

I almost never preorder. I've done it twice only (Portal 2 and Worms Revolutions, since that preorder came with Worms Armageddon!). And I don't think I've ever bought a game day 1. This goes from back in the day, when games tended to need patching if you bought them early, so I developed a habit to wait. Not that it hinders me in any way - I usually have enough other stuff to do at launch time, so waiting for a week, a month or half a year is pretty much the same, really.

I'll preorder if its a game I'm going to get anyway, and if I get something out of the deal. The last game I preordered was Borderlands 2. I loved the original, so I knew I was going to buy this one, and I got some free DLC out of the deal, so I saw no reason not to.

No, and in the case of most games I think you're a bit of an irresponsible consumer if you do. Then again, publishers push preordering like theres no tomorrow, so I cant really blame people for doing it.

I pre-order my must have games, like Hitman Absolution, or if they give me a clear benefit, like Borderlands 2 Golden Key.

I pre-ordered Skyrim, loved it. I pre-ordered Diablo 3 and fucking hated it. I ordered D3 for all the wrong reasons but have learned from my mistakes (probably). I'll only buy a game pre-order if I know I will love it. I should have pre-ordered ME3, but didn't. Still haven't played it but really want to, just don't like Origin.

I never preorder. i dont believe in buying a cat in a bag. There was 1 game that i bough day1 - it was assasins creed (the original).
usually by the time i find time to try out new games, they become 2 years old, mostly forgotten by the "ADHD" players and likely not even supported anymore.

I hardly ever pre-order games, and most of the games I own came from a 75% off sale on Steam. I pre-ordered whatever the new Worms game is because it came with Worms Armageddeon, and I put money towards pre-ordering a 4-pack of Borderlands 2 because my friends wanted someone to play it with.

Rarely. But there are some games which are just sold to me. I played the demo of Gravity Rush and I immediately pre-ordered. Hell, it caused me to buy the Vita.

I did go through a phase of buying Cave shooters from Rising Star for a while, but I've realised none are as good as Mushihimesama Futari, so I don't anymore.

Once in a while, depends on the bonus too. Got the BG:EE because I knew Id be getting it no matter what and I really have no idea how Beamdog could possibly mess that game up.
Also got Project Eternity if that counts, looks promising and I wanted to support such a project since Im a big fan of top down isometric RPG's (who guessed?)

I preorder occasionally. Usually though I wait a few months until the price has dropped and someone out there has written a walkthrough for the game, since I'm absolutely awful at things like puzzles.
