Do you see yourself playing video games at age 60?

I often wonder how many of our senior citizens these days find great pleasure in current video games. I'm 32 years old and I have been gaming since the Atari 2600, and its still a very crucial aspect of my life, such as it is. I just saw a particularly hilarious video of Ozzy Osbourne on X-Box live all pumped about playing Modern Warfare with live members as part of that whole "Game with Celebrities" thing. So I have two questions really; does anyone here know 50 plus year old gamers who don't just play solitaire or Texas Holdum on outdated PC's, AND, do you see yourself playing video games when you are over the hill?

I'm not quite sure if I'll still be gaming at 60, 41 years is quite a long time and I could see gaming going too ways; games technology would have stopped developing and gaming would be dead or the tech would be even further than people anticipate.

I'd like to think I would still be gaming though, especially seeing as how I'm going to uni to do games programming.

I doubt I'll be gaming as seriously as I do now. And the games themselves will have changed more than we can imagine, but... yes, at least a bit.

If I live that long,
and my eyes hold out,
and I can get out of this slump
Im staring right at a copy of Planescape Torment that I've wanted to play for months right now and yet I can't be bothered to play.

I'VE BECOME EVERYTHING I'VE EVER HATED!

I would hope so. By then we should be able to slow down ageing enough so that I will still have the body of a 35-40 year old. That age is perfectly acceptable to still be playing them (see: Victor Lucas), and I'd still physically be able to do it.

I surely would, yeah. I mean it's like asking if I'd keep watching films at 60. I've gotten into games, there's no real way to get out of them, it's a kick ass medium.

My Dad sometimes plays on his Wii but that isn't exactly common. Also I can't really see age getting in the way of my gaming, I think the reason that there aren't a lot of elderly gamers is that once you get to a certain age you haven't grown up with video games. I will be surprised if many people on here physically stop gaming just because they have aged a bit.

I don't know any very old gamers, but I know that I'll end up as one.
There's just too much cool stuff coming out right now for me to imagine a world decades down the line, and not think "Oh my god, that is going to be so awesome".

Of course, by 2050 World of Halo Portal Molyneux-mon will come pre-installed in our brain chips, so most people will game casually at least.

I sure hope so, but I guess by that time I won't be keeping up with new releases anymore. Just replaying old favorites. Maybe it will become like listening to classical music.

It depends.. They would have to mature a great deal, and start catering those who are patient and appeal to things more complex. As I've grown, my tastes and criticisms have changed, and more often than that, even in the greatest of games, I spend a lot of the time criticizing this and that, wishing they were a little more involving or compelling.

I'm sure by the time I'm 60, there will be something out there, but I don't know.

I have met a few older gents who play video games. When I was in the army, I bumped into an old veteran shopping for games. Apparently he was very into flight simulators, and had quite an impressive gaming rig (PC) that he told me all about. He must have been going into his 70's, and he even had a special ops belt buckle, which I asked about. Former mountain infantry, special operations, stuff like that. He had told me he was always interested in being a pilot but never got into that, hence his interest in flight simulators. I recommended him a few good ones.

So there ya go.

I think I do. I don't just like gaming as entertainment, I'm also very fascinated with the medium as a whole and I love seeing it develop and evolve. I don't think I'll stop following it any time soon and stop trying out the actual games.

My granddad. He's 78 years old. Obviously didn't grow up with computers, let alone video games, but I hooked him to them. He loves them. Every time he comes round we'll stay up til midnight playing cards and drinking Scotch, then carry on til light playing 360. Fun times.

Hmmm. Maybe. As a senior, I'd imagine I would have A LOT of free time on my hands. So I probably would. Maybe not avidly, but 1 or 2 hour sessions every 2 days or so. I don't know.

I guess it also depends on how game develope. Or...

IF THEN EVEN EXIST AT THAT POINT IN TIME =O
