Pretty straight foward question , do you think people that work in the video game industry ( graphic designers, game story writters, Voice actors, hell even the publishers, etc... ) play video games during their free time ? Or do you think that , since they work all day on video games, during their free time ,they prefer to do something else? Also Video game testing doesn't count as playing a video game lol . Just our of curiosity what do you guys think ? Do you think the majority do? Or most of them don't . Sure i know some people that study graphic design and stuff because they want to make video games in the futur , and they all love video games, but do you think that loves fades away after you've gotten the job, and work day in and day out on video games?

What do you think ?

If they don't then their creation will be poopy.

How can you create a game without playing a game?it's like asking someone who can't read to read.

I'm not asking if they have played games in the past, i'm wondering if they STILL play video games during their free time.

O,that changes things abit...

they should play a game once awhile, they need to compare their game to something.

but if a develepor hates games then he shouldn't be making games.(sorry for off topicness)

I think I'd personally begin to loathe games if it was my job.

Or at least, not want to play them for "fun."

The same point holds valid, it would be like a screenwriter who doesn't watch films or an author that doesn't read books. They don't just do it for their own enjoyment, they need to keep up to date with what's happening in the medium, what changes and innovations are being made so that they improve the quality of their own work. So in short, of course they still play videogames it would would be highly detrimental to their work if they didn't.

Depends on your involvement in the game development I expect. Playtesters probably have a hard time switching off from work to recreational games. I am aware that a lot of game reviewers can get very jaded to the actual "fun" of playing a game simply because they have to force themselves through it whether they feel like it or not.

Thank you for expanding , this is a better answer , and i do see your point . But then wouldn't this count as doing it for work ? And they aren't really playing games during their free time for enjoyment . ( im not expecting a answer to this btw )

Yeah they would, some departments might not, like the people in charge of the advertising campaigns.

I think the companies that make the best, most high-quality titles do. They're often "in-tune" with the industry and the player base. They tend to understand what most people like and more-often than not listen to their costumers. (i.e. Valve, Blizzard, indie developers, etc)

This, by no stretch of the imagination, means they won't make mistakes. They're still human and still often have upper level management who more than likely don't game much. (I'm looking at you Blizzard/Activision)

That said, I'm sure many of the programmers, designers, and artists at work in the gaming industry are there because they love games. Not all, but most. So it'd be a bit odd if they didn't game once in a while. In the very least.

Yeah, don't you think that people that spend years working on video games would get sick of it , and refere to it as a job and would prefer not playing a game during their free time because it makes them think of work?

Some do, some don't. It's not an all or nothing question or answer (honestly, since when does Valve speak for the entire industry, or that the accounts you're viewing are their personal accounts?). As well, though you mean developers and publishers, the game industry also includes sales, testers, and reviewers.

That said, those that do tend not to experience games in the same fashion as those completely detached from the industry beyond consumer. I know when I was a retail drone who specialized in game sales, I played games with a more critical eye than I did in the past.
