Do you think that AC III is boring?

So at first don't get me wrong, I don't want to troll about Assassin's Creed III. The only thing is I think that the series lost it's touch with it's latest installment. I am a fan of the franchise, I have all the other titles of AC, with AC II as my personal favourite. :)

I have a few problems with the game, that I want to go away and simply enjoy the game, but I can't.

At first the glitches suck, they really do. I have had many times when I had to restart entire missions, because NPCs got stuck somewhere or I fell through the floor.

I have also a problem with Connor being less an assassin then Ezio or Altair, he has not the same motives.

These are not the main points of my impression: I think that AC III is boring. Today I finished the game and can't even remeber the ending (Connor's Ending, not Desmond's), though I can remeber everything that happened in AC I & II. The sidequests are not really motivating and I don't see the need to hunt in the forests or earn money. I finished the game with buying only a few things, so I didn't hunt, because there was nothing I was interested in concerning spending my money. I won't go in detail concerning the story, because I don't want to spoiler, but comparing it to the previous AC games, it is a letdown in my opinion, Connor is more a killing machine than an assassin. I don't like the cities, New York looks nearly like Boston (yes, I know it is the colonial style, but however, it is kind of boring, there is no striking difference, so it feels for me like one big city, that is split in two smaller ones) and the flow of the freerunning feature is disturbed, because every 3th house or so I hang on the roof of a house or fell down, it is by far not as smooth as it was in AC II. So all in all, I want to like the game, but I at some point I rushed through it because I didn't want to do sidequests or things like that. I wanted to finish the game and play something that makes more fun (this sounds harsh, but after sequence 6 I didn't enjoy the game anymore, I just wanted to watch the story. This is sad, because I searched every single collectible in the other AC games...).

So I don't say that AC III is a bad game, it is in deed a good one, but boring (for me at least). I am happy for those who enjoy it, but I think I won't play it ever again, I was more a waiting for the credits than a suspensfull experience full with sidequests.

What are your opinions on this?

One, did we really need the 14th "my opinion on AC3" thread? See's like you could have posted this in one of the other ones.

Anyway, I enjoyed the game just fine. Matter fact, it's better than 2 IMO. I can't really see how people have gotten so disappointed with it like everyone says but, such is life.

I think Ubisoft made a mistake setting the game where they did - It simply wasn't an interesting or visually pleasing world to wander through. It completely lacked character. And a good gameworld should entice the player into exploring it. The only environments in the game I genuinely liked were...

...the theater at the start and the ship Haythem takes to America.

The franchise is also quickly running out of settings for the Assassin's Creed gameplay to work in in a way that it can still be called Assassin's Creed. And AC3 might be the first wall they hit in that regard. That is, if they continue going forward through history.

I didn't finish the game though so maybe there were better environments later on, but I simply got too bored to continue.

I do agree the game isn't that bad, but like every thing else it has some big glitches but that is to be expected, all the games glitch at some point and the bigger the map the more likely it is to glitch

This thread isn't about Armored Core 3 at all! I guess that is what happens when you don't go out of your way to stay topical.

I definitely think the game was a rather large step backward in the franchise, but the story, characters, and environment were the only things that *really* bored me. Combat was exciting and the naval missions were fantastic, serving as a great diversion from the horse glitching and the godawful hunting.

Assassin's creed 3 fails on three basic levels:

1) The setting is not fun to explore.
Three story buildings that are spaced far apart really breaks flow.

2) No actual assassinations.
Yes Connor killed people, but not in a sneaky stab-y kind of way. Its more chases and frontal assaults. No wonder
the assassin order fell
.

3) Unlikable main character.
Connors is just childish and he can't (perspectively) see more than five feet in front of him. He lashes out at Achilles all the time. Saying he never helped. I'd go further but it be going to far into spoilers.

I really like it for the most part, but there are some things that really bug me. For one, this is probably the glitchiest AC yet. I've had side missions that refuse to start, there's a specific keg in the New York underground that causes the screen to go white and the sound to amplify when picked up, enemies get stuck in objects, and bait mysteriously vanishes from my inventory whenever I return to the homestead. There's also a few oversights and lack of polish. For one, do NOT wait until the end to do Assassination Contracts, as the red-coat Templars are now treated as enemies by the packs of Patriot guards. The menu system is clunky and hard to get used to after previous games, but by far the worst of the bunch is the crafting system.

The crafting system is useless, plain and simple. Yes you can use it to refill your inventory and gain a few weapons and upgrades, but what is the point of the dozens upon dozens of useless trinkets? They don't sell for as much as pelts, which can be bought for dirt cheap from the very same menu. To add insult to injury, the way the crafting menu is set up is terrible. If I want to sell 10 bear pelts on one of my ships, why can't I just select ten of them at once? For each empty slot I have to pick the item category, go through a large list to select the one I want, then pick the store I want to sell it to. I have to do this for every item I'm loading onto the convoy. We should not have to spend 10 minutes doing this crap just to make a few thousand pounds.

Despite these faults though, I do love the game as a whole. I love the setting and story, the combat is the best in the series, the naval missions are fun, the recruit system has been vastly improved in terms of usefulness, tons and tons of side missions, I really love hunting, and the multiplayer, while largely unchanged, has a few minor improvements that go a long way towards a better experience, such as making ranged weapons separate from other abilities and making the stun button the same as the kill button, meaning you can't automatically be identified as a pursuer by the different button prompt over your head. I mean fuck, focus kills actually seem physically possible now.

I don't know if the game knocks AC2 from being my personal favorite, but I would probably rank it as second or third best in the series.

I just couldn't get into the story. The first seven or eight chapters were boring as a wait at the DMV, the characters besides Haythem were bland stereotypes, and I found Connor to just be downright unlikeable. Combat was fun for the most part, but I hated the fact that to use the weapon wheel took you out of combat and into a menu, which require a little bit of loading and would constantly unequip my main weapon whenever I switched my secondary weapon.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. If they set one in Victorian London I'll be all over that shit.
