ok so we have all seen that april fools trailer by IGN and at least heard of "the hero of time" a fan film done a while back but what about a REAL movie. like in theatres. could it work? and if so what game should they use as a base for it? who would you wanna see produce it? direct it? star? any extra thoughts i left out? if you have any input on the subject i would be more than happy to hear it.

personally i think that it could work if done carefully, i would want shigeru miyamoto working directly with it to ensure a legend of zelda feel. i dont know about directors and actors and the like but i think universal (of their movies i have seen none have been truely bad), Dreamworks (have a good standing with nintendo's target audience but have also done films for an older crowd), or paramount (solid choice and a good collection of experienced producers). of course i would want all of the people involved to have at least play one or two of the games, because if you dont play it you dont know what you are talking about. naturally there will have to be CGI but the technology has come far enough not to worry about it.

I will only want it made if I can play Link.

Otherwise, I'm not very interested at all. The Legend of Zelda wasn't meant for the big screen, so I think it should stay away.

It would be nice but with the poor success rate of a movie adaptation to a video game things don't bare well.

It's the idea of taking a story from an interactive medium and putting it in a non-interactive medium. In theory and execution it shouldn't work. Then again, sometimes a story can work outside of the game (Like Advent Children) and I wouldn't mind watching hollywood try, but if it turns out to be bad, I and everyone else will shun it like the Mario Bros movie.

(That being said, Prince of Persia looks awesome.)

Yeah... the phrase "Well excuse me princess" comes to mind, and I say "Hells no!". But to see an awesome graphics film featuring a hero I love, I want it. But the success rate of video game movie adaptations isn't so high. Damn! Why is it that (recently) comic book movies have been doing so well, they've gotten so much better, but video game movies just don't seem to work?

God no. I can imagine no scenario in which a Zelda film would be entertaining and I don't rely on Hollywood being creative enough to solve that problem without ruining the movie.

Maybe an Epic trilogy, with the director of Lord of the Rings. And keep Uwe Bol far faaaaaar away.

NO! Just no! the only good video game movie (If you want to call it that) is Final Fantasy Advent Children, and we had to suffer through spirits within to get that.

The IGN trailer looked good.

What would be needed would be a good plot, a good budget, and someone who loves the source material but is not trying to create a carbon copy. Movies are not games.
Imagine if someone like Guillaume Del Torio or Peter Jackson would take on Zelda... it could be great.

A videogame movie done right does not try to be a videogame but just uses the setting from it -- in that sense Tomb Raider and Silent Hill were quite successful, and so could be Prince of Persia (more so even).

Once upon a time I probably would have gone wild for the idea.
Now I can safely say that the Zelda franchise was not meant for the medium of film.
The idea of the game is to make Link the player. Throughout the game the mute hero becomes you, and despite there being no true character there, you relate to the scenario and become immersed.

Film wouldn't work of course, because there would be an actor playing Link. Having an actor (A.K.A not YOU) would take away this 'immersability'.

I'll just say that under NO circumstances should Elijah Wood be involved.
Aww, but he could cameo as the douchebag who wont let you go see the deku tree until you get a sword and shield!

Two possible things could come of it.

1) They rip the Zelda plot (get 3 of x, make world worse because of missguided goodness, get master sword, get 7 of y, fix initial mistake and improve world slightly) and make a terrible film with it.

2) They make a new plot in the Zelda universe, film is successful. Nintendo makes new games based off the film style, which don't translate well into a game and thus ruin one of my favourite ever franchises.

I'm fairly well-seated in the 'in no effing way do I want this to happen'. I'd go watch it tho, I guess...

Well....lets see..... lets blend the art styles of alice in wonder land, Lemmy Snicket and Pan's Labyrinth. Action and level of gore would on the scale of Labyrinth(the 80s one,hey I liked it damnit).

Plot/story is simple medieval elvish country with a alot of hints of magic around the princess asks to see link but before they meet shes kidnapped by Gannon, a few of his minions are left and in the insuring fight his triforce of courage kicks in and he manages to slay them, perhaps in lue of gore/blood have all Gannons minions and monsters die in a puff of mystical smoke.

Anyway after that the people around recognize him as something special and via the princess note she leaves behind he starts out on his journey. Frist hour focus on that and the start of things next hour starts to wind things up him getting closer and closer to to Gannon. Who looks like a tall darker skinned elf but thats just a disguise his real form is a larger fatter troll/ogre thing.

Prehps 2-3 movies would do the story more justice, 1-2 movies of adventuring 1 movie of him in his teen years fighting Gannon.

That is too fantasy-based to be successful withuot big budget nowadays. Maybe a Scifi channel movie.

I would think a movie would have it's own story, and not follow a game, as most are just dungeon crawlers.

The actor talking might break our own personal connection with Link. I think we all hear his voice differently based on our own thoughts of him. although i'm 100% sure he wouldn't sound like Gilbert Godphrey.
