Do you want Children?

I'm going to go ahead and assume that we can mostly agree that the world is ridiculously overpopulated right now. People are dying in the streets. There isn't enough food to go around. Yet, for every plague, famine and genocide you hear about the world population still seems to be rising or at least maintaining itself.

So, I've got to know, do any of you want children and, if so, why?

Its a strange thing to ask people. There are many in the world who just go through life the way other people are (a process known as Social Validation) and readily cling to the idea that life has a specific progression. Some people get married and have children, not because they really want to, but because they figure its about time they did. I know everyone talks about "oh, it was the greatest moment of my life when I saw my newborn boy/girl" and I can't argue with that. But at the same time I can say that the idea of bringing even more children into the world instead of adopting the nearly endless sea of orphaned young sounds selfish. Also, my childhood was pretty bad. Not that I was ever starving but, emotionally, that stuff sucked. I don't think I could consciously put another human being through the same experience I had growing up. But, hey, thats just me.

So how about it? Do you want kids? State your reasoning (Full credit will not be awarded to partial answers of Yes or No).

EDIT - Yes, I do realize there are two other threads that are roughly like this but I feel ashamed about grave digging.

No. I believe that I'll do better in the "fun, eccentric" uncle role than as a father. I'm not ready. I doubt I will ever be ready.

Population (discounting immigration) is actually sinking in most developed nations.
It's only on the rise in developing nations.

I might want children some day. I still don't really know yet. Hell, I don't even know if I really want a girlfriend any time soon.
Time will show, but I suspect I will succumb to the biological imperative at some point.

Definitely. I get on very well with children, and while the world as a whole is suffering from overpopulation, in my country the UK we're actually have an ageing population so we need more kids, not less. I may adopt one child though as I'd like at least one daughter so if my first was a son then I'd consider adopting the second, that would depend on what my partner wanted too though. I've had a great life so far and I'd love to give someone-else the chance to have those experiences too.

I can't have children. Fortunately, I don't want to, either. Can't stand the buggers for more than 30 minutes anyway. I'm sure it's very awesome and special and magical and all to become a father/mother but to be honest, the idea never has appealed to me. And besides, like I said, I can't have children.

Yes, I want kids, but I'm lesbian, so I'd probably just adopt. There's plenty of spare kids in the world, I don't need to go that far out of my way to make my own (sperm donors, artificial insemination... no thanks). I'd want the child to be as young as possible though, so she (I assume I'll only have daughters) would feel more like mine.

And her name will be Revan.

Nope.

My reason being a combination of shitty genetics and my belief that I'd be a shitty father.

Not really. Considering that my future financial base will require me to eat my own snot for nourishment some nights, I won't be able to support children either way.

Besides, finally moving away from my parents and becoming automous will be awesome. Why spoil it?

Yes, I do.

Although, and call me old fashioned, I would really like a son, as he'd carry on the family name. I'm the only male in my generation on my side of the family, so carrying on our family name is all down to me.

Plus it would be great to take him to football games, teach him to drive, teach him to shoot etc. :D I reckon I'd be a pretty good dad for some reason, I'm only 19 so i have no idea why I feel that, but I just do :)

Yes, I want kids. I want to be a father, simple as that.
I don't know why really, but there is something so fascinating with the whole parenting thing.

*hrk* I wonder why ¬_¬ (that'd be kinda cool, actually, though it's easy to see it as a unisex name... *shrug*)

OT: Yes, I suppose I would, two, one of each gender, separated by at most two years. Though I'd be reluctant to introduce them to their cousins (considering what their parents are like i.e. my sisters + respective partners...)

I sorta have a step son, but want a real one someday. And because I want to continue on my family and have a legacy and all of that. The world isn't any worse than it has ever been, and I'm not pessimistic about everything.

Nope. I do not want them. At all. I can't stand the little creatures and couldn't imagine making the life-long commitment to actually take care of them.

Nope. I don't really like them and having to raise them sounds...complicated. I forget to water my plants or get to college on time and barely know what day I'm in when I'm working or gaming. I don't want to be one of those parents forgetting about their kid because they were doing something else.

I do not want kids. I do not want to raise them or be financially responsible for anyone other than myself and my significant other.

I would not mind being an uncle or a godfather, though.

I'd like children at some point.
My ideal situation would be if I never attract a woman wanting to have my child, then at the moment I die, the life of my clone shall begin.

Once discovered, he shall live life under constant surveillance by the government and be used as a constant citation on people's stance on clones, and will be hated by many. This process shall ensure he will grow up to have my personality traits, undoubtably more extreme. This process also removes all chances of my offspring being a prick, at least this way I know he will be.
