No, not really. I took it as feedback for activity back then but nowadays it's just so annoying. I prefer my PC to be silent.

Heck, I didn't even realise how much I liked the silence until at one point I started installing an OS off a CD. Can't remember exactly why I had to do it off CD, maybe because it was just readily available. At any rate, I have done that approximately a bajillion of times before but had since ~2010 switched to using flash drives for the task. So when I got a CD again after years the noises it made when it was spinning and being read just sounded wrong. For a couple of seconds I honestly wrong something was wrong until I remembered that's how disks sounded. Heck, after that I even had to wait. More so than with a flash drive, at least.

I didn't know how much I didn't miss CDs until I had to use one.

Aye. Not only that, but I kind of miss DOS in all its clunky glory. Having to type in the executable manually made for a more intimate experience[footnote]Not in THAT way, you pervs.[/footnote] than the cold, distant mouse clicks and whisper quiet processors of today.

No. Living in the tropics, it sounded like the computer was on its last legs and would start a small fire at any moment.

Mine keeps screaming at me. Like a pit of angry nazguls partaking in a seasonal hate orgy. I tried feeding it human limbs, but you don't wanna know what direction that went in. My neighbour has a few spare cats though...

One genital ring to rule them all.
I'm personally glad PCs don't make noises like that anymore. not even the light clicking noise of windows processes eating idle time. Quiet is better. Especially if you enjoy multitasking, like watching Westworld while tweeting about Westworld.

Ya know, they say that if ya bury that old PC in the old indian graveya'd then you'll hear those noises forevah. But I'm tellin ya not to do it. Sometimes broken is bettah.

Those sounds gave me a heart-attack every time. I kept praying to the RNG; Please don't break down, please dont break down.

During startup. I think when reading the BIOS and initializing the OS.

Macintosh maybe?
Not nearly as good as the sounds of the floppy drive working in the A-500. I wish I could find a decent recording of it, but all the ones I can find just use their crappy camera audio.

Hmmnope. Didn't like it.

Mainly because those noises would always accompany the computer taking absolutely fucking ages to do some simple task that happens pretty much instantly nowadays.

Like dial-up internet. Holy shit do I NOT miss that and the noises it used to make.

Yes! Not sure which one, since we only ever had a Mac once, but I played SimCity2000 on it, and some weird game where you were a toy soldier (that looked like the Evil Dead guy) in various worlds, like a candy one and stuff.

Oh please the sound of Harddrive access is not 'old' computers. This

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbumzCdw4Ts

is the sound of an old computer loading and in those days you REALLY had to wait for the game to load.

I miss the sound that Windows XP used to make - a quick tune when the main screen loaded. Now it's nothing. :(

I do have something of a soft spot for them, but I definitely wouldn't want them back all the time. I already find myself thinking "SHIT IS MY HARDDRIVE ABOUT TO DIE?!" every single time my computer makes even the tiniest irregular noise already.
